Who was I to say no to you?

Eventually my half-birthday arrived, and so did you, tall, handsome, smiling. You waited with me until closing time, then helped me clean the tables, push in the chairs, sweep the floors.

When we finished, we walked to the theater a couple blocks away for the showing at one in the morning. I had work in a few mere hours, but in the moment I didn't care. Sacrificing my sleep for one night was well worth spending time with you outside the confines of the rundown building we met in.

It was freezing outside but you slung your arm over my shoulder and talked in a manner rambunctious enough to draw attention from the few others wandering the streets at such a late-early-time.

I feigned exasperation with your behaviour, but I loved it.

I loved you.
