Somehow she was the child of a human and a mermaid but she was apparently abandoned and she has never met them. She was nursed as a baby by a different mermaid for awhile. But things were complicated because in the evening she would turn to a human. She never really fit in and didn't ever make any close friends. The mermaids don't completely accept her as one of them. She found a house to live in on an island that has now been covered up. She's never been happy with her life because she just goes back and forth and has no friends or purpose.
