There is a conspiracy theory saying that there are additives in the drinking water of developed countries to create a more docile population. Write about this being real, only the additives also give the drinkers a false perception of the world around them. Only by avoiding the tap water can they really see the world as it really is. Maybe this is why suffering from dehydration is so utterly terrifying.
