God damn, Newt was impressed. He didn't know if even he had the guts to be able to do something like that.

Rosalind's eyes flew open and she groaned weakly. Newt and Thomas turned their heads to look at her, relief crossing over their faces.

"What happened?" Rosalind asked, her voice scratchy and dry.

"It's morn' now," Newt said softly. "One of them doctors patched you up."

"How're you feeling?" Thomas asked her.

Instead of answering, she placed a palm on the ground and pushed herself up, grimacing. Newt helped her, placing his hands behind her back to support her.

She looked down and examined her bandaged stomach, the side slightly soaked with blood.

"Don't look at that," Newt said softly, lifting her head up. "You're okay, alright?"

She somehow managed a weak smile as she met his gaze.

Thomas offered her his hand and she took it, pulling herself to her feet, wincing. Newt got up as well and grabbed her arms to steady her.

"What do we do now?" came Frypan's hoarse voice from nearby. He was sitting on a pile of scrap metal, looking as miserable as the rest of them felt.

"I would pick up what's left of the rest of us," Vince said. He was crouching over a cloth-covered body, Harriet beside him. "Stick to the plan and get you kids to the safe haven."

He got to his feet slowly and gazed around him with tired eyes. "And we start over I guess."

"I'm not going with you," Thomas said suddenly.

Everyone turned to look at him, taken aback.

"What do you mean?" Rose said, blinking in surprise.

Thomas fidgeted with his backpack. "I made a promise to Minho. I wouldn't leave him behind, I have to go after him."

"Hey, kid, look around you," Vince said, spreading his arms and gesturing to the wasteland around us that had once been a mighty camp. "WICKED just kicked our ass. Think about where you're headed."

"I'm not asking anyone to come with me," Thomas said quietly.

"Tommy, listen to me," Newt said, stepping forward to him. "I've known Minho for... for as long as I can remember. So if there is any way we can help him, trust me, I would be up there standing next to you. But this plan you're talking about? It's impossible."

"More like suicide," Jorge piped up from behind us.

"Maybe." Thomas said. "But I know what I'm supposed to do now. It's not just about Minho - it's about all of us. It's about everyone WICKED has taken, about everyone they will take. They'll never stop. They'll never stop so... I'm gonna stop them."

He lifted his head up and met all our gazes. "I'm gonna kill Ava Paige," he said simply.

Everyone exchanged glances with each other, processing his words.

"I have to admit," Harriet spoke up. "I'd like some revenge."

"And Minho saved my life," Rose said, stepping forward. Newt was amazed to see fiery determination burning in her eyes despite the obvious pain she was in. "If it weren't for him I wouldn't be standing here right now. Minho's counting on us, and I won't let him down."

Vince looked to her, then to Thomas. "Well, it's a good speech, kid," he admitted. "So what's your plan?"

Thomas held his head up high, looking grateful for our support, flames of determination roaring in his steely eyes.

"We give WICKED what they deserve. And that's a promise."

HOLY SHIT. Book 2 is finally over. yall know what that means - it's death cure time :D

also i havent been active recently cause i was suffering through writer's block and i was at my friend's house with no data or wifi so that was fun

update on my life (if anyone even cares lol) i went to a TWICE concert and they looked so damn gorgeous irl!! i couldn't believe my eyes. i was in the spot right next to the stage, so i was able to see them up close 😍

anyway, hope yall are doing great, and hope you enjoyed book 2 :) it's much shorter than book 1, but dont worry cause book 3 is gonna be SO FUCKING GREAT. it's longer and a lot of shit happens there. it's probably my fav out of this trilogy.
