Aniala:

I had accidently fallen asleep again after I finished eating. I woke up a lot, but never enough to get out of bed. The first time, I was alone in the room. The second time, Abigail and Adam were talking quietly on the other side of the room. And the third time, only Adam was there with me.

When I finally woke up, it was still just Adam there with me. I sat up. My movement must've broken his train of thought, because he jumped a little bit, but then smiled at me.

"Hey, sleepy head," he said.

"Hey," I replied, rubbing my eyes. "Where's Abigail?"

"She's going to get stuff for dinner," Adam told me.

"How long did I sleep?!"

"Most of the day," he said laughing.

Just then, Abigail came back in the room with some food. "Dinner!" she said happily, handing us our shares. We ate for a little bit, talking like normal. Then, when we finished, Adam stood up from where he had been sitting on the floor.

"Alright, guys, I have something for both of you," He reached into his pocket and pulled out a necklace with a pink rose on it. "Here you go, Abby," he said handing it to her. "I thought you'd like something with a flower." Adam smiled at her, then turned to me. "And for you," he said, reaching into his pocket again. "I got you this, because I thought it would look really pretty with your eyes." And he pulled out a blue gem that was on a silver chain.

"Oh, it's beautiful! Thank you, Adam!" I stood up from the bed and hugged him. I went over to Abigail and pulled all of my hair over my shoulder. "Put it on for me?" I asked her, turning around. She clipped the necklace around my neck.

I sat there examining it. "Turn around, Aniala," Abigail said. "I want to see it on you." I turned with a smile on my face.

҉ ҉ ҉ ҉ ҉

I couldn't sleep that night, probably from sleeping all day. I could hear Abigail's soft breathing next to me, and moonlight seeped through the window at the end of the bed. I held my necklace in my hands, and looked at it. It was so pretty. I dropped it at the foot of the bed and got up to stand by the window.

Moonlight streamed straight through the window. I noticed a faint glow from behind me and turned around. The necklace was glowing. No, just the gem. I walked over to it curiously. The moment the gem was no longer in the moonlight, it stopped glowing.

Abigail sat up on one elbow and rubbed her face with her other hand. "What was that light?" she asked sleepily.

I moved out of the way of the moonlight again, and the gem lit up. Abigail sat up all the way and looked wide awake now. I moved in front of the gem; it stopped glowing. Abigail looked at it with large eyes.

"Why is it doing that?" she asked slowly.

"I don't know," I told her. I picked up the necklace and placed it on the table next to the bed-out of the way of the window.

"It's fine now, go back to bed, Abigail." I told her. She nodded warily and laid back down.

I sat on the bed for a while longer, waiting for her breath to even out. When I knew she was asleep, I grabbed the necklace and walked out the door of the room.

Adam:

I heard the door click open when I was just half awake, but I was awake in a second when I heard it close. I heard light footsteps going down the hallway. Aniala. I'd know her footsteps anywhere. I looked over at the other bed. Yep, just Abigail. I got out of bed and walked quickly but quietly to the door. I opened it and closed it silently, then turned to the left and saw Aniala turning the corner. I could have called out her name or told her to stop, but I wanted to know what she was doing. And I had a feeling she wouldn't tell me the truth if I asked her.

I followed her down the stairs and into the main room of the inn. She walked outside. Where was she going? When I finally got to the door, I opened it, trying to do so very quietly. I stepped outside and looked around.

I caught sight of Aniala walking down some side path to the back of the inn. I followed her, just as I had been. We were walking down that path for bit, and then I accidently stepped on a stick. It snapped quite loudly. Aniala's head snapped around, and she saw me in a second. "Adam?" she asked.

"Yeah," I whisper-yelled back.

"What are you doing?" she started walking towards me.

I walked up to her. "I think the better question is what are you doing?"

She looked down, and I thought she was about to make something up. Then she looked at me and said, "Come with me." She grabbed my wrist and started walking down the path again. We got to the back of the inn, and it just had a few trees but most of it was drenched in moonlight. We stood under a tree, and it was then I noticed that she had the necklace in her hand.

"Watch," she told me, then tossed the necklace into the moonlight. It hit the grass softly, but then it started to glow. Aniala stood there and watched it for a bit, then went over and picked it up. When she got back under the tree, the gem stopped glowing.

"Why-?"

"I have no idea," she said.

We stood there looking at it under the tree, even thought it wasn't glowing anymore.

"We should go back to bed," I said after a while.

"Yeah," she replied. Then I led the way back up to our room in the inn, and we both got in our beds and went to sleep. For a while I couldn't sleep, and I kept looking at the spot where Aniala had put the necklace on the dresser. I fell asleep eventually, though.
