My second series is out! The idea was given to me by a friend (Thank you!) who tried to write something with it but wasn't happy with the outcome. She told me and I promised her I would give it a shot. So here you are! The Other Half. I hope you enjoy this new story!

I slung my bag over my shoulder and shut my locker door. I slumped down agaisnt it and pulled out my phone while I waited for Cody. I swiped past the lock screen and paused to smile at the faint light pulsing deep in the palm of my left hand. I brushed my finger over the slight lump and relaxed as I breathed in time with its steady beat. Everyone had one of these pulsers, we were born with them already in our skin. They connected us to our heart and they were actually quite useful for measuring your heart beat, among other things.

"Boo!" A voice shouted behind me and I jumped in shock.

"Cody! You nearly scared me to death!" I shrieked.

"Now that would be tragic." He smirked and sat down next to me. Cody and I were always like this yet every time he still managed to scare me with a simple "boo".

I glared at him. "Look!" I shoved my palm in his face to show my accelerated heart beat.

"It's not that fast Tess." He shrugged. "Honestly, I'm surprised I can still scare you like that."

"I scare easily and you know that." I muttered. Cody and I had been friends for as long as I could remember even though he could easily be quite popular. He had shaggy blonde hair, that he never really bothered doing anything with, and grey-blue eyes that most girls dreamed of gazing into. To finish off his jock-like look he appeared to be very athletic when actually he was anything but.

"Suck it up buttercup." He sang teasingly.

"I swear you're going to kill me one day."

"Damn it you guessed my plan!" He exclaimed sarcastically as he opened up his locker. I rolled my eyes and passed him the wrinkled paper that fell from it. He took it from me and crammed it back in. I pushed the locker door shut to his annoyance and repeated this several times until he glared at me in annoyance and I reluctantly stopped. "You know, I still don't get why you don't hang out with them." I remarked and nodded to the jocks goofing around farther down the hallway.

He sighed and his shoulders fell like they always did when we discussed this. "They're all idiots and you know that Tessa. Besides, what's wrong with me hanging out with you? You tired of me already?"

"You just seem like you could be really popular." I replied quietly. "Sometimes I feel like I'm holding you down that's all."

"Tessa you know that's not true. Besides, I don't really want to be anything different from what I am now." He assured me.

I smiled slightly at him and reached up for my necklace. This was yet another thing everybody had; we're given them as soon as we're born and they never come off. They all were half a heart yet every single one was different except for one, your soul mate. Only then would the two halfs click together. Some people found theirs in elementry school and others found them when they were old and grey. I hadn't found mine yet. I never expected to.

"Hello!" Cody waved his hand in my face. "Earth to Tessa! I repeat, earth to Tessa!"

"I'm paying attention!" I slapped his hand away gently.

"So then why did you not notice that the bell rang?"

"It did?" I leaped to my feet and hurried to open my locker. One of the perks of having a locker next to Cody's was I always knew if he was at school that day. Of course I would already know that if he texted me. If he texted me.
