“Well we were having such an interesting conversation. But now you must go, you shouldn’t wait the poor boy waiting for so long.”

“Seriously?”

“Yes, now go.” She was pushing me towards the door when I stopped her.”

“Hold on a second. As you are my mother I have something very important to tell you but please don’t be unpleasant.”

“Go ahead, darling.”

“How do I look?”

“You know how much I dislike that type of clothes. However, I do think you look beautiful. I’m sure that boy down stairs will love you.”

“Mom, I don’t want to be pretty for him, okay? I’ll just leave before you arrange my marriage with that guy. And don’t wait up for me because I’m going to sleep at Emma’s house.” I knew it was hard for my mother to let me go like that. Until a few weeks ago I was her little girl. I didn’t sleep away in any place but my comfy bed. I had never been to a bar until that night. I didn’t have any friends beside my cousin. I didn’t wear those clothes or contact lenses. And I didn’t listen to any kind of music that wasn’t classical. Well, that was what she thought because since I was twelve that I had developed a very strong love for rock music. You know, there are some very good advantages in having a dad who used to be a rock star.

I was entering the living room when I noticed my father really excited talking about guitars with this guy - who by the way, I didn’t know who was yet. I couldn’t see his face but I immediately recognized his laugh. The last boy I wanted to talk that night

“Gerard?!” As he turned to me with an innocent – fake – smile on his face I wished I could just disappear. “You’re the one who’s going to take me?”

“Well, that is the idea.” Gerard was wearing a black suit with a shirt on the same color and a red tie. I had to admit that he looked really handsome in those clothes but apart from that I didn’t want to share the same space as him unless with was absolutely necessary.

“Couldn’t Ray or Bob pick me up?”

“No, they had a problem with the sound check so they asked me to come.”

“Is there a problem, Juliet?” My mother, nosy as always inquired me. Yes, there was a problem. I didn’t want that idiot near me. I didn’t want to talk to him or pretend everything was okay. He had hurt my feelings and I couldn’t just ignore it.

“No, there isn’t. Everything’s alright, don’t worry.”

“Well, we should go. We are already late.”

We said goodbye to my parents and then got out of the house heading to the car. It was what it seemed like a long trip. None of us had the courage to speak and to be honest I didn’t feel like having a conversation with him at all.

“Listen, Juliet, we need to talk.”

“I have nothing to discuss with you.”Gerard suddenly stopped the car and looked at me.

“I’m sorry.”

“There’s nothing to be sorry about. You’ve made your decision and I respect that.” I gave him a sad smile trying to overcome the fact that he had been a complete asshole to me.

“I know what happened with Ashley. She told me everything.”

“So? That doesn’t changes anything.” Was he really thinking everything would change with a simple apology? I needed more than that. He was the first guy I liked.

“I know and I’m so sorry. I didn’t want it to happen. She wasn’t even my girlfriend.”

“Then why did she say it?”
