Alex POV

Hours. That was how long we had been trapped in this stupid elevator for. I couldn’t stand it. While Adam, Bree, and Chase were running for their lives, we were trapped. I hated that we couldn’t do anything.

“Alright, that’s it.” Leo suddenly spoke. “We have to do something.”

“What can we possibly do?” I asked, speaking for the first time since we had been trapped.

“I’m gonna climb onto the roof of the elevator and find the emergency switch.” He told me. Davenport was too busy crying to even notice what we were doing. I honestly didn’t know if he was crying because of his kids, or because he was broke. I had a feeling it was the second one.

“How are you gonna get up there?” I questioned, now on my feet.

“Cup your hands together and give me a lift.” He said. I nodded and cupped my hands under his right foot. He placed it in my hand and I gave him a boost up. He used his cell phone as a light source since he had a flashlight app on it.

After waiting for a few minutes, the elevator started moving and Leo jumped down. I quickly hugged him. “Good job, Leo.” Davenport smiled at him, now on his feet. At least he stopped crying.

The elevator stopped moving and Leo and Davenport pushed open the door. Tasha was on the other side, relief showing on her face once she saw us.

“Mom!” Leo exclaimed as he ran into her arms. Davenport and I hugged her next.

“I was so worried.” Tasha said.

“I’m so glad you’re okay.” Davenport told her.

“How did you fix the elevator?” She questioned.

He sighed. “Well, it was incredibly difficult, but in the face of great adversity-“

“I shimmied up the shaft and flipped the emergency switch while he cried.” Leo explained, cutting Davenport off.

“But I coached him.” Davenport said, obviously lying. He was just crying the whole time. He looked around the room and breathed a sigh of relief. “At least my sprinkler system put the fire out before it could spread to the rest of the house.”

Tasha looked at him. “What about the lab?”

Xxx

My heart ached at the sight of the lab. It was completely destroyed. Every single invention ever created was destroyed, scattered around. Scrap metal was everywhere, and they were mostly covered in soot and ash. You could even still smell the smoke. I couldn’t believe that this was once the amazing lab we hung out in every day. It was unrecognizable now.

“It’s worse than I thought.” Davenport said, his voice full of sadness. “Everything’s destroyed.”

“The blast took out everything.” Leo was shocked.

“I can’t believe it’s gone.” I whispered.

“I can’t believe your own brother would do this.” Tasha said angrily, looking at her husband. “Hey could’ve killed you, Leo, and Alex.”

“My Mission Specialist desk.” Leo gasped, looking at his former desk. Glass was shattered, and the metal that basically made the desk was completely deformed. “Okay, this just got real. I’m going to hurt Douglas where he lives…as soon as I find out where he lives.”
