The zoo

When you sit,
In the corner of a social gathering.
You are paranoid,
How do people see you?
What are you:
The lion at the zoo,
Or the person?
You're not quite sure.
Everybody is talking
You feel like the lion.
But not quite as strong.
You feel like a dolphin
Constantly performing
But not quite as smart.
And you're certainly not the person.
You decide that you're the meat,
That they feed to the lion.
The noise engulfs you,
Devours you.
They all watch in awe and fascination
As they watch the strange girl,
Sat at the corner table
Being eaten.
