Ayanna

I could not believe them. First, they don't even care about shoving me into a school where I would get teased and made fun of... every single day. And now this! They were about to gobble down a whole cookie cake without me. Almost in celebration that their daughter was sobbing her eyes out. Grrr... there will be payback.

But thankfully, they had only gotten it out of the fridge, since it was still icy cold, and started cutting it. "Come to momma!" I muttered, as I finished there one line of cutting, and made it into a gigantic piece, mouth watering, as the savory smell of fresh cookie filled my nose with happiness and delight.

Just as I was about to gobble up the first scrumptious bite, I heard loud knocking on the door. Ugh... couldn't whoever is at the door wait a few more seconds?

I dragged my feet along the floor, disappointed, and opened the door sadly. "What do you want?" I asked, angrily, as a girl, my age stood at the door. I squinted my eyes, expecting her to get scared and run away, but I was happily wrong.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, my name is Mary, I heard the news, and my whole family disappeared, and I just moved onto this street last week. Can we be friends?" She asked.

"Sure, why not " I replied as I opened the door a little farther to let her in.

"Your eyes are beautiful! Why are you squinting?" Mary asked, stepping into my house amazed.

"You see, most people are scared of me because they think I am some 'alien girl' because my eyes are white."

"Well, I think they are awesome." She said as I smiled. I knew this would be a good friendship, "I didn't catch your name, what was it?"

"Oh! Sorry! I forgot to say. I'm Ayanna." I replied as I lead her into the kitchen so we could enjoy the cookie cake together, "You want half of this?"

"Sure!" She said as I gave her half of the cookie. "I can already tell we are going to be good friends."

"I can too!" I said.

"May I ask a question?" Mary asked as she swallowed her first bite of the scrumptious cookie.

"Of course you can!" I replied.

"Well... I was thinking... since it seems both of us are alone at the moment... would you be willing to stay in the same house, so we have more protection?"

That's a genius idea! Of course! I wanted to scream, but instead, I kept my cool and answered, "Sure! Who's house?"

"Well, I haven't quite finished unpacking, or started really, so I have everything in boxes. Maybe I could bring my stuff here?"

"That sounds like a good idea. Want some help? I have a wagon we could use to bring the boxes over easier."

"That would be lovely." She responded.

Although my arms ached from doing a workout with my dad the night before, we used teamwork and loaded all of her stuff onto the wagon, laughing along the way.

And suddenly, my arms didn't ache anymore.
