The air was smoggy as the buses drove by, leaving behind a trail of near black exhaust.

Jared stood on the street corner awaiting someone in particular. He needed someone to keep his daughter safe.

Looking down at the baby in his arms, Jared noticed how much she looked like her mother, his wife who had died in childbirth.

Jared hadn't even bothered to name his baby until he thought of it. They would need something to put on her birth certificate.

By the birthmark on her neck, just behind her ear, Jared could tell that this was obviously who the King had been looking for.

The baby in his arms began squirming and Jared did the first thing he thought of to calm his daughter. He hummed a tune that Penny, his wife and the baby girl's mother, used to sing prior to the birth of this glorious and pure being.

Jared was tempted to bestow a name upon his bundle of innocence but refused the temptation. He knew that the King would want to name her.

Jared leaned against the cold stone wall of the building he stood by in order to keep his back from giving out. He had been waiting for the King to arrive for hours now and needed to rest. He knew he could not. Until the King arrived, it was Jared's duty to protect his child and keep her safe for the King.

Jared felt something beneath him shift as he looked down he saw that he was no longer on the street corner but he was standing on a tile floor, outside of a door. He knew where he was, he had been here before.

"Come in." A deep voice said in a harsh whisper.

The baby girl in Jared's arms suddenly became alert.

"King." Jared said kneeling on one knee and holding the precious child out in front of him.

"What is her name?" The King asked looking at the baby, who looked into his blue violet eyes and giggled.

"I didn't give her one. I thought you might prefer to choose it." Jared said shakily.

He did not like giving up his only baby to the King but knew it was necessary.

"A wise choice." The King said scooping up the infant from her father's warm arms.

The baby began to cry, breaking both the King's and Jared's heart.

The King realized that his usually cold body temperature wasn't helping the matter so he willed himself to warm up his arms and chest.

"I shall name her Leah." The King said looking down at the baby with such affection.

"You May leave." The King said to Jared in a harsh and cold manner.

The moment Jared left the room Leah began to wail. It wrenched out the usually heartless and ruthless King's heart out of his chest.

He summoned Jared back and commanded that he raise her until her sixteenth birthday when he would come and retrieve her to be his King.

Jared nodded and took Leah back to his apartment with him.

"That, Leah, was the King of the Fallen. Someday you will be his Queen."
