"isn't it amazing that stars look so close together in the sky
but in reality they're light years apart?"
i glance up at you,
because i'm not used to you being philisophical
but you're not looking at the stars at all.
instead
you're staring right at me.
"isn't it amazing," you whisper, " that you and i look so close together
but we're still so far apart?"
your forehead rests on mine
and the night air dances between our lips,
begging us to follow.
and as if it were a dance
we move together; softly, slowly
like the wind
waltzing through grass.
your lips are on mine;
there are no fireworks
but i didn't expect there to be.
instead it feels like thousands of tiny galaxies are exploding into stardust in my mouth,
stardust that tastes like lemon sherbet;
sour and addictive and a little effervescent.
much like you.
your hands are entwined in my hair
like i'm a tree
and you're a thorny branch i can't escape.
if only i were trying-
to escape.
