My sophmore year was wrapping up quite nicely. I transferred again to a medical prep school in the beginning of my sophmore year. I was on a roll with my academics and I was anticipating summer.

"So next year you're going to have pre-cal. Don't worry because I know you will do just fine. You're one of the students I chose." my Algebra 2 teacher said.

"I will do my best." I said shaking his hand. I walked out of the school with a huge smile on my face. In the car waiting was Jasmine. "Best friend!" she yelled and hugged me. I smiled and she let go.

"Hey!" I said excitedly. We got back in the car and headed to our new apartment. We moved again to a nicer apartment that was only 3 blocks from my school. We got out of the car and headed upstairs. My mom was in the kitchen making some tea and we headed to my room.

"So how's Michael?" Jasmine asked.

"He's doing a little better, but you know I always worry about him."

"He's strong. He's held on this long and Im happy for you two."

"Thank you." I said cuddling into my blanket. "So have you told your mom about the engagement?" she asked. My mom said that Michael and I could be together but she didn't say that we could get married. If she heard that we were she would call it off and my future with Michael would be undetermined.

"No I havent....and I dont think I will. I just cant. She's going to be so upset with me."

"Maybe just postpone the wedding until you guys graduate at least."

"I really dont want to wait."

"Why the rush?" she asked confused. People just didnt understand. Whether or not I knew, Michael's health was deteriorating and he was just playing it cool. We cant afford to wait until graduation. I wanted to say we were married now because I'd never know how it would feel to be officially married to him.

"I just want it." I said holding my head back. She laughed and my mom walked into my room. "Pup I want those dishes washed, and Jasmine I want the floors sweeped and mopped before you go to bed tonight." she said sternly. "OK mom it will be done. " I said. She said she loved us and walked away.

"She knows we always do work." Jasmine said. I laughed. "Well you know what the drill is." I said cutting on the TV. We watched a movie and afterward we got to work. Jasmine and I were talking when my phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey babycakes."

"Mikey!" I said smiling

He laughed. Whatcha doing?"

"Chores." I said looking at Jasmine. She walked towards me and said that she wanted to say hi. I smiled and handed her the phone. "What up Mike?.....oh you know just hanging out with your fiance aka my best friend." she said all silly. I laughed as I rinsed a plate.

"Well I just wanted to say hi. You can go back to talking to babycakes." she said giggling. She handed me the phone and got back to mopping the floor.

"Boy she is something." he said laughing.

"Yes she is" I giggled. He began telling me about how harsh chemo was for him that day and his head was bothering him a lot lately.

"Babe I dont know what it is but my head is killing me. My doctor said that he was going to give me meds for it but I have to wait until they come in."

"Cant you take some ibuprofen while you wait for the other medicine?"

"Yea. I took some now and waiting for it to kick in." he said

"I hope you feel better babe. I'm going to check on you later. Get some rest." I said

"OK babe. I love you." he said almost quietly. I smiled and waited for a second. "I love you too." I got off the phone and Jasmine looked at me. "His head is hurting and I told him to lay down and get some rest."

"Did he take some medicine?"

"He said he was waiting on his prescription but in the meantime he took some ibuprofen."

"Thats good. He should be feeling better in no time." she said sitting down. I finished the dishes and sat down at the table. "So what do you want to do now?" she said looking at me. She could tell that I was worried and sad. I just wanted him to get better.

"Wanna talk about it?" she asked.

"No not really." I said sighing.

"Come on. I got something that will cheer you up!" she said grabbing my hand. We got up and walked into my room.

I just wanted Michael to be OK.
