Figuring Out The Truth

"I'm not talking about me Mia!" I said trying my best to sound surprised at the thought.

"Oh please where not best friends for nothing" she shrugged. "Why are you with Damon anyway? He's a total flirt!" she added with an annoyed voice. She hated Damon. Well she really didn't know Damon but she only hated him because she said he was in the way of me and Austin being together.

"Austin and I are just friends" I said trying to sound convincing.

"Oh please you know you like him." she rolled her eyes.

"Hey Payton, hey babe." I didn't even have to turn around to know it was Liam. Liam had asked her out two days after Damon had asked me out and MIA had obviously said yes.

"Oh hey" Mia said smiling. He leaned down and kissed her then sat down and held her hand. They looked so cute and happy which only made me sigh in frustration.

"Oh come on Pay, you know you could be happy too if you just went out with Austin." Mia said.

"I second that. Why are you with that dick head Damon anyway?" Liam asked while popping some grapes into his mouth.

"First he's not a dick, second, Austin and I are just friends. And that's barely! He barely talks to me anymore." I sighed again. I looked to front of the class and there he was. We where in study hall and he usually doesn't sit with us anymore. He rarely talks to me since that day on the balcony.

"Well if he's not a dick then why did we find him flirting with another girl five minutes ago." Liam asked.

"Wait what?" Mia said before I could.

"Yeah. Austin and I where walking over here and Austin saw him pinning a girl against the wall so he went right up and to him and punched him. Pretty hard too." Liam shrugged. "The guys a douchebag Pay, you should dump his ass"

"Oh hell no! Just wait till I see him!" Mia said loudly.

I sighed and grabbed my phone and texted him. I was upfront and told him what Liam told me. He denied it over and over but I don't think Liam would I lie to me. Sure he wanted me to be with Austin but he wouldn't go that far. Would he?

Damon and I ended up arguing and he told me to come outside. I looked through the door window and there he was waiting for me. I got a pass from the teacher who looked to be falling asleep and went out.

"What do you want Damon?" I hissed at him.

"Payton you can't honestly believe those guys. Yes Austin did punch me but for no reason I was just walking and he straight out punched me."

"Why would they lie to me about that? Come on Damon." I crossed my arms waiting for him just to confess already. I was tired of all this bullshit that's been going on since I said yes to him.

It had been two weeks. Two full weeks since Payton told Austin she was with Damon. It killed Austin to see them together he hated having to see them kiss. Anger would boil through him and all he wanted to do was rip Damons head off. Liam stayed by his side the most he could just in case Austins anger took control of him.

Even though it killed Austin he knew he couldn't do anything, if Payton wanted to be with Damon then so be it. He really cared for her and he knew that she was supposed to be with him instead but he cared for her so much that he didn't want to trap her into his life even though she was his mate. He wanted her to the option he didn't want to own her.

He didn't want to stay away from her but he had too. Every time he was by her or even five feet away a burning sensation his throat and the urge to kiss her and make her his burned through him. Everyday it was getting harder and harder not to mark her. Often after school he would go to the packs building and just work out. This was the part that sucked about being a wolf in New York, he couldn't just go in any forest and shift and run as much as his wolf desired he had to be extremly careful.

Austin was so determined to tell Payton about him, about his life, and how he was a wolf but when she told him she was with Damon he didn't think there was a point anymore. He didn't want to force her to be with him, just because she was his mate.

Payton hated the fact that Austin was avoiding her. He tried his best not to make it obvious but she knew he was. She hated not being able to hear his voice as often as she had got use to in her first week in this school. She missed his laugh and his smirks. She missed his cocky side and his dumb jokes. She missed everything about him.

She knew he wasn't going to like that she was with Damon but she never thought he would go to the extent of ignoring her. A part of her hoped that Austin would of just said that he liked her and kissed her. She probably would of broke up with Damon that same day but he didn't. What game was Austin playing with her.

She remembered how he said what he felt was more than a crush for her but yet he didn't do anything about it. He only had asked her out on that one date but it was Mia's house. She knew part of it was her fault. It was her fault for saying yes to Damon that they didn't go any further. But she was scared.

She had promised her parents to stay away from people like him but yet there he was making her go crazy for him. She missed the tingles that would roam her body when he even just slightly brushed his arm against hers. She missed the fact that she couldn't help but smile when he said the stupidest things. She just missed him so bad. She knew it was going to be hard to avoid these feelings for him but she never thought it would be this hard. And now, she didn't want to avoid her feelings for him.

"Payton? Did you hear me?" Damon asked.

"What? Oh um, listen Damon, I don't know I need some time to think." She said then walked back into class confused. She didn't want to be with Damon and it should of hurt her that it was possible he was flirting with some girl. Oh hell she knew he was. She knew Damon is a flirt and she had caught him checking out plenty of girls and winking at a few. She didn't care though she felt nothing towards him.

she noticed the now sleeping teacher and with out thinking pulled Austins arm. He didn't budge he just stood there looking at her.

"Can we talk" she said pulling his arm again. When she imagined this she pictured Austin stumbling up and her leading him out the doors. Guess she should of thought about how strong he is.

"About?" He asked puzzled.

The tingles flowing her body became stronger when she heard his voice. They hadn't talked since Damon, well they had but it wasn't in a conversation between just them.

"Everything" she pulled his arm once again and he got up and followed her. She knew that he didn't get up because she pulled him up but because he wanted to. And that thought made a small smile appear on Paytons face.

Once they made it out the classroom with everyone's eyes looking at them in utter shock Payton let go of his arm. "Why did you punch Damon?" she asked flatly.

"Because the douche of the boyfriend you have was flirting with another girl." He said. This made all the sense in the world to him. When a guy flirts with a girl that's not his girlfriend is a douchebag. And he sop get his ass beat by his girlfriends friend.

"He's not my boyfriend." she rolled her eyes. But he was her boyfriend even though she didn't want him to be.

Austin raised his eyebrows hoping this was true. He walked closer and closer to her till her back was on the wall and he was up against her. He loved the way her body felt against his and he wasn't planning on leaving her side if she was now single.

"So your single?" His voice was Derp and low. All he could think about was how badly he wanted to kiss her.
