He's the man responsible for the death of her mother and sister. While her mother was driving her sister home from primary school one winter morning, the Dragotti Gang struck.
They rammed the car off of the road and set it ablaze, killing the two of them by smoke inhalation.
Her father never recovered from the enormous loss and vowed revenge upon the leader of the infamous Dragotti Gang.
That revenge came in the form of Antonina, who was two months old at the time her mother and sister were killed and was oblivious to the disaster the family this man was bred from had inflicted on hers at the time.
But Antonina is pulled out of her all-consuming thoughts by Marco Dragotti ramming his pistol in the side of her head.
"I'll ask you one more fucking time before I shoot your sorry little ass right between the eyes. What is your name?" He growls, holding Antonina's chin up and forcing her to meet his piercing gaze.
Marco expects her to be scared for her life, but he doesn't yet know that she is Fearless.
Her entire life, Antonina has never felt that all-too-familiar rush of adrenaline caused by fear. She was born simply unable to be scared. A malfunction in her brain —whether in her amygdala or neurotransmitters— she doesn't know. No one has ever told her why she feels this way, simply that she does.
Deciding that she'd rather not die tonight, she gives up on trying to convince the richest man in the world of that stupid, obviously fake name.
"I'm Fearless," She mutters, embarrassed that after five years of becoming a hit-woman, she's never been in a similar sticky situation like this.
She wanted to keep that streak going steady and without disturbances, but sadly, Marco Dragotti had to catch her snooping in the hallway.
He laughs at her bold declaration.
"There's no way you're Fearless!" He guffaws, clutching his stomach as if the mere action of laughing pains him.
She glares, annoyed by his arrogance. "What makes you say that?"
"With how she's described, I thought she'd be a strong, bullish woman with muscles large enough to hold a man down before she slits his throat. Instead, I have before me a weak little...girl!" Marco Dragotti spits out the last word as if it's an insult.
That's the last straw that forces Antonina into a rage.
"You think I'm an impish girl, Marco Dragotti?" She yells, writhing underneath the ropes that hold her back from breaking his fucking jaw. Her Russian accent is coming out now with the anger overtaking her. "This little girl has killed more people than you could even imagine. Hell, I've even been hired to take out your closest colleagues."
She's got him now.
"That one guy who sold you half the world's supply of cocaine? I was hired to make him disappear off of planet Earth. The reason you haven't heard from him is that his body's at the bottom of a river somewhere in South America."
All while Antonina was bellowing at him about her former hits, Marco studied her carefully, not the least bit threatened by her.
Why would he be?
To him Antonina is a poser, mooching off of the mystique of the mighty Fearless, an assassin, yes, but one who he can't help having respect for.
Because what she doesn't know is that Marco has been searching for Fearless for months, desperate to hire her for undoubtedly the most important job in her lifetime.
