love, the more you conceal your heart, the more you bury it deeper into your chest and abandon all vulnerability, the longer creatures of aching longing dwell in a home that cannot be theirs.

you trap those carnivorous demons inside to let them feast on an already fraying organ, letting them tear at each artery that will no longer allow blood flow through your body. your hands will grow cold. your movements will adopt a slower pace. your tongue will gnash at anything it perceives as a threat, whether it be so or not.

dear, bend back your bones and let me see the mess. that cavity will store so much gore, so much pain, so much of the aftermath of a silent violence. it will hurt, it will, but let me look at your wound with care. let those who would be gentle begin to mend back together a new tissue to keep you whole.

it won't be beautiful, not in the least. but the result of such a tedious task? you will be born anew with a heart to match.
