the girls the world forgot

i break for the women who's lives are have been stuffed with others, who's lungs have never been their own

i weep for the women with glass encasing their eyes, holding in their soul and their tears from falling away

i pray for the women who's organs are being poisoned by lead they mistake for love, who's open heart is only inviting toxins into their bloodstream

i feel for the women who's mouthes have been stitched shut and their fingers broken, told to slow their words and quiet their movements

i wish for the women with chests leaking out their trauma and their bruises blossoming like roses on their palms

i long for the women who's skin is calloused and peeling and burnt by bearing the burdens of the moon under an unyielding sun

i beg for the women who now are empty due to those who believed they could make homes out of human beings

- i cry for the girls the world forgot
