Keeping it Together

At the kindergarten everything looked the same, untouched, nothing moved- Black was amazed and yet horrified at the area. He began asking questions about the place and why everything was left instead of destroyed. Pearl was happy to answer his questions, while Garnet and Amethyst listened. I look over to see Steven walking away, I follow since I really didn’t want to relearn all that info. However, in the distance we could see Peridot. 

She fiddles with her finger screen as she records her voice onto it. 

 “This is Peridot, updating status. Still stuck on this miserable planet... The fusion experiments are developing properly. A few have even emerged early-” She stops when she spots us, shrieking in shock. Looking around herself she whispers to us. “Are the others with you?” 

Steven nods, shakes his head, but ends up shrugging his shoulders. 

“Of course, why not!” She sighed. In the distance we heard Garnet yell out her name. 

“There she is!” Pearl shouted, charging at her- the green gem gasps cornering her between the towering dirt walls. 

“Nowhere to go!” Amethyst shouted.

“You’re cornered!” Pearl said, pointing her spear at her. Just as Peridot began scaling the wall, running along it. Shooting past Peridot, the green gem smirks and looks back at Pearl. 

“HA! You missed me!” She shouted. Pearl's spear hits the leg of an Injector stuck on the dirt wall and dissipates. The Injector then begins to collapse off the wall. Peridot sees the falling Injector and tries to flee, but the Injector hits her and they crash onto the ground, a cloud of dust and dirt hiding her from our vision, until it clears. 

“Ouch.” Black said, I looked over and noticed he didn’t have his weapon out. 

“Why isn’t your scythe out?” I asked, worried that he wasn’t taking this seriously.

“She’s a peridot, without her tech on her she’s pretty much useless.” Black said, Peridot emerges from the rubble and flees again.  

Amethyst tethers the fleeing Peridot with her whip. Peridot then generates an electrical current with her fingertips, electrifying the entire whip. Causing Amethyst to drop her weapon. 

“Who-o-oa! Hot whip!” Amethyst shouted. 

“She has her tech on her!” I shouted, pulling out my bow and aiming at her. She was able to dodge my attack. 

“You Crystal Clods! Go ahead! Wreck this place, see if I care! I already got what I needed.” Peridot shouted, she quickly turned her fingers into helicopter-blades, lifting her from the ground. She laughs maniacally as she flies off. 

Pearl and Amethyst pursue Peridot deep into the kindergarten, just as the rest of us try to follow. Steven and I were stopped by Black and Garnet, the tallest members holding us back. 

“If Peridot’s mission was to reactivate the kindergarten, the injectors would be on. Look, they’re not.” Garnet pointed out. 

“Let’s see what she was actually doing.” Black said as he lifted up the collapsed injector and revealed the elevator shaft Peridot ascended. 

“Brains and brawn? You’re the whole package.” I teased, Black smirked as we slide down the hole. 

“Question.” I said, Black nods awaiting my question. “Do modern homeworld gems know about minerals?” I asked, wondering why Peridot didn’t react when seeing Black.
