The newly transformed Ladybug jumps from her balcony towards the source of the screaming. She catches sight of dozens of people running from nothing. Maybe something invisible? Then, she sees a flash of green light, followed by more screams.
"DON'T YOU SEE THEM? THE SPIDERS," One woman yells. Ladybug looks, but there are no spiders to be found.
'What the heck is this?' She thinks.
She finally spots a young akumatized woman several yards away, dressed in bright purple and silver, producing this aforementioned green light from her leather gloves. A bolt of light shoots from her hands every few minutes, hitting someone who then goes into a terrified frenzy.
"I'm thinking she's messing with their fears," says a familiar voice behind her.
"Chat," she turns around, "You can't sneak up on me like that!"
"You sound like someone else I know," he smirks, looking her up and down, "Hey... since when do you keep your hair down?"
She feels the loose strands with her fingers, 'Crap, I forgot to put it up," she thinks. Then out loud, "It's a new thing I'm trying... And since when do you look as sad as a lost kitten?"
"Um, non-superhero problems," he replies, looking down, "It doesn't matter."
She studies his face worriedly, "I've had my share of disappointment today too. How about we both just focus on the job, then?"
He nods, "So: fears."
"Yeah, how did you come up with that one?"
"People screaming about spiders and clowns? Wasn't that hard to figure out. She seems to shoot beams out of her gloves, and everybody that gets hit starts to freak out. Maybe hallucinations?"
"Makes sense. Are we thinking the akuma is in her gloves?"
"I think it's likely," with that he jumps to the next rooftop over, "See you on the field, partner."
Ladybug rolls her eyes towards the lovable cat and sets out in the direction of the akuma.
Chat dodges some green beams and shouts, "Come on, Fear Lady, is that all you've got?"
When Ladybug makes it there, her partner has already gotten a couple of hits in, distracting the 'Fear Lady' from her victims.
"My name is Frenzy! Paris will fall to its knees in terror," she yells.
"That would just be 'terror-ble'; I'm one of the idiots who lives here," jokes Chat.
Ladybug jumps and lands beside him, saying to Frenzy, "Looks like we're gonna have to stop you. Need a hand?" She asks him.
"I've got it pretty covered, but if you wanna help, be my guest, Bugaboo."
She rolls her eyes once again, but smiles in his direction, "Silly kitty."
They take off, throwing hits at Frenzy and dodging her attacks. The blasts of green seem to scream in fear as they whiz past the heroes' ears.
"I hope you're not scared of the dark, children."
She says the word 'children' in a way that would send chills up the spine of the Devil himself. All of the lights in the street shut off one by one, leaving it in total darkness.
"As a matter of fact, madam, cats love the dark," says Chat, getting used to his night vision.
Ladybug, on the other hand, is struggling to find her way around without tripping over any curbs or cracks. She tries to follow the slight green glow that surrounds Frenzy, who seems preoccupied with a certain cat.
A thud comes from somewhere on her right, followed by her partner groaning in pain.
"Chat," Marinette asks, "Are you okay?"
No answer. She stumbles her way towards the sound of the thud.
