I stop and look up at the huge ship that still floats over the Atlantic Ocean...
ESTHER:
I pick up Loki's body and carry him over my shoulders to the vessel Nebula had crashed into the massive ship. I set him down inside and put the Power Gem with its casing around it down in there as well.
I log into our channel... "Andromeda checking in," I say into it, huffing.
There are tons of exclaims and people acting relieved that I am okay until I hear Thor ask about Loki as I am about to climb in and take off... but I don't pay attention when I stop and look over at Nebula... a soft but bitter crying escaping her as she lies so pathetically on the floor, her failure soaking in... and her pain leaving in the form of tears.
Suddenly I get an image that flashes over my mind... of me sitting beside Loki when he woke up from the nightmare back on the Helicarrier, my hand on his shoulder as I comforted him... despite my strong desire to murder him only just before that... All I wanted was his death... all I wanted... and yet I saw his humanity. I looked past that little child what was mistreated and cast into the shadow, only wanted acceptance from his father... and I saw who he really was... and I loved him no matter what he had done... I gave him another chance...
And look what became of it.
I stop, remembering the compassion that spoke in my heart and the voice I didn't recognize at the time but now I know it was God all along.
I look over at her and drop my weapon in the cockpit, determination in me before I walk over to where she lies and pick her up with her arm over my shoulder, pulling her along as the aliens finally come from the doorway and run towards us. But I speed up and put her inside the ship before I climb in and take control of the components, closing the hatch as they run up and start firing their laser guns. I yank on the clutch when the engines are turned on and pull us from the hole that this thing created. I take the ship far from this one as fast as I can when I watch Iron Man fly by.
