C H A P T E R 3 4_

STEVE:

I stop when the mimic lets me go and stares into my face oddly... before taking off in the other direction. I huff and pull my bloody arm from the snow that is covered in red and look around to see the aliens all... not fighting... and they seem to either hesitate there or run away...

ESTHER:

Nebula cries out and throws her dagger and before I know it I feel it sink into my abdomen with a sudden feeling of shock... I feel numb and suddenly all of my strength leaves my body as I fall back against the dead brain, my palm no longer holding the stone as if it disappeared. My back relaxes against the tentacles as I let my breath come out slowly. They'll know Loki and I are dead so they will be able to go ahead with the plan. They have monitors that measure our heart rates so the girls back at base will be able to inform the others.

That's okay. Loki and I have done our job. And we will be joined together again and I will also see my father... and mother... I let that thought run through my mind as the pain starts to get worse and take my body out of shock in order to tell me I am dying. My warm blood leaks from my wounds onto the floor steadily as I let it, no more energy in me.

I glance down at my beloved at my side, his eyes shut and his body at rest now... I reach down to wrap my hand around his cold and stiff one... gazing upon his perfect cheek bones and beautiful face I loved so much. The way he could calm me but also make me crazy; the way he could always make me laugh no matter what I was going through; the way he could make me fall in love with chaos and he fell in love with stability; two things that were unfamiliar to us both.

I could see us taking on the universe together and bringing peace to those who need it. We would never stay in one place for long; seeing all there was to see and just having makeup sex after we fought all the time... Us against the universe.

Here we are... living with each other and dying with each other... always together... and never apart.

I shut my eyes as I think of only good memories and all the people we have saved today...

But everything stops when I feel something and then... I open my eyes suddenly.

Here I stand in a field with the ocean ahead and a familiar house behind me―the house I grew up in...

The sky is a beautiful color of purple and blue with stars that number higher than I can count and the seas reflect it beautifully...

A figure steps forward into the light and reveals a strong face that seems so familiar like I saw it in a dream...

But then... I notice his eyes that I would recognize anywhere. They are the same color of orange that mine are and his father-like face and tall and broad physique is instantly recognizable.

"...Dad?" I mutter, my voice sounding like a ghost. I stand with no pain and no sorrow in me.

"Two Infinity Stones... In all my travels I never saw such a thing... but I always knew you were strong," he says calmly down to me in a way that seems so incredibly proud.
