V I G I L A N C E ~ (MCU) ~

C H A P T E R 3 4_

My hand touches his cheek so softly, holding his face that would have been mine forever... I may have been prepared to die today... but I wasn't prepared to watch it happen to him...

"I promise you... the sun will shine on us again," I say, knowing that I will die soon as well and join him in the afterlife...

He grabs my hand with the last of his strength, his fingers cold. "...F-finish this..." he mutters quietly with intent through his thin dry lips.

I look up as I see Nebula getting back to her feet and clicking her metal jaw back in place before she breathes hard and glares at me... a fight still in her eyes.

I know this isn't over. I look over to the brain beside me, spotting something strange in the center of the Omega... something small... and green... I catch a glimpse of it through the small pieces of organic flesh that constantly move around the core.

THOR:

I cry out and strike down lightning that pierces four bodies of mimics before I watch Sif get tackled and Fandral fires at the ones that fight at her, his arrow sticking into the creature's head before she pulls it off and they fight side by side as he sticks his needle sword into the mouths of these demons. Volstagg is nearby chopping them up with his ax but they are all being overwhelmed and I can't get them off me either as we defend the doorway into the bunker.

I get tackled by an alpha and when I see it I know I can't kill it but it pins me to the ground and lifts its head to fire a ball of flames right into my face.

NATASHA:

My heart skips three beats when a loud noise catches my attention and I watch the massive demon that was trapped leap from its place and I shriek, dropping the device when I jump back, preparing for it to rip me to shreds.

ESTHER:

When Nebula stands up and grabs one of my throwing blades from the ground I leap to my feet and stick my hand through the straight black tentacles surrounding the brain, and inside the Omega, taking the small object in my grasp and yanking it from the flesh as the lights inside it go out and it falls lifeless as the purple lights in the roots inside the room also die out.

THOR:

The beast suddenly stops, its light going out as it stiffens up and becomes rigid. I pull it off me and to the side and the thing collapses.

NATASHA:

The alpha becomes frozen and doesn't move when the blue completely leaves its body and the creature is now just a grey statue before me... Immediately I breathe with relief... Did she do it?
