I just finished packing when my mom honked the horn. I was so ready for this, even though it felt bad leaving home.
"Goodbye old room."
I grabbed the last of my things and headed down our homes stairs, going out to the car and shoving the last box in the trunk. I was to go to my apartment and settle in, and tomorrow I would go in for my first meeting with my boss. I was so nervous just thinking about it but also excited.
"You ready for the long trip?" asked my father.
"Yes yes yes, one hundred percent!" I screeched out of excitement.
"Let's go!" my parents said in unison.
~~~
We were halfway there when we finally reached a rest stop. I told my parents I'd run in and get some food and pay for gas, and they happily let me do so as they took a quick rest.
I walked into the store and the little bell clinged loudly. I slowly went through the aisles and grabbed packages of treats for the rest of our trip, making sure to get things they liked. I went to reach for a bag of seaweed when my hand collided with another, shocking me and making me spill all of my groceries.
"I'm so sorry," said the guy. "I didn't mean to make you drop your things, let me help"
"Oh, sorry sir. It's no big deal," I said while gathering the spilled items, "I'm sorry I'm just really clumsy."
He bent down and helped me put my things back in the basket I was holding. I usually can't converse well with strangers, but the softness in his voice made me feel calm and less dumb.
"Thank you, you didn't have to help me."
The boy giggled and looked up at me, "of course I had to help you, I'm the one who made the mess."
I smiled.
"My names Jungkook, and you?"
"Ah, Marie. Nice to meet you," I stood up and politely put out my hand.
He gave me a shake and we bowed. I said thanks again and waved goodbye as I went up to the counter to pay. I felt hot and nervous, being embarrassed by the situation. I thought I could feel his eyes still looking at me, making me feel worse. I paid quickly and got the heck out of there.
"We all set Marie?"
"Yep, ready to go!" I said while buckling my seatbelt.
I turned and looked out the window to see Jungkook waving goodbye. I smiled and waved in return before my mom pulled away and continued our trip.
~~~
We pulled into a parking place and sighed, finally reaching our destination. I was ready to see my new home, and excited about looking around and thinking of how to decorate. I had only seen pictures of the place and it looked nice, but I wanted to see it in person.
I jumped from the car and ran up the stairs until I found my door, surprisingly with a note stuck to it.
"Dear Marie, thank you for taking this job! We know your work is amazing and we're excited to see how you do. Your meeting will be at 9:30 tomorrow, so rest up well and have a nice night! We hope you enjoy your new home!"
As I read the note my parents started unloading the car and coming up the steps. With excitement running through my veins I pushed the key in and turned. I swooshed the door open as fast as I could and ran inside.
Wow.
