CARDBOARD CALLINGS

Cardboard sign
Begging for every penny and dime
Brick wall
Name was Paul
Slanted back
Life stuffed into a sack

Sleeping bag
His clothes, a rag
This, this is what we stand for?
Under our hoisted flag
A man struggling near a clothing store
Sleeping sadly, on the floor

We ALWAYS need more
This man, has NOTHING
We don't dare look at him
Because he's an eyesore?
That's a person sitting there
If anything we should stare
Wondering why no one is helping
Why no one is dressing him
In clean clothes
No one; knows
Offers, to help him out
Instead we walk past, filling our heads with doubt

One day that could be, US
Sleeping just past the bus stop
With a cardboard sign
Begging for every penny, every dime

One day that could be, USSleeping just past the bus stopWith a cardboard sign Begging for every penny, every dime
