"How did it go? What have you learned about our friend?" Jungkook asks after the last lesson. You and your friends always meet at the same spot after school and chat a little bit before heading home, since you barely have any lessons together as a full group.
"Nothing much, to be honest, accept that he calls you 'the meanie'," I smile as I remember how Taehyung scrunched his nose at the mention of Jungkook.
"Does he still bring those stupid sandwiches?" Hoseok asks, not looking up from his phone.
You nod. "He does."
Everyone suddenly stops talking when they see Taehyung walking out, head ducked down to avoid as many people as he can. "Go walk him home, Y/N. He might fall and scratch his knee."
"I'm not going to," You say.
"It's part of the dare." Jimin reminds you with a smirk on his face.
You roll your eyes at your cousin, but then you notice that the boy who was previously walking facing the ground was now brightly smiling and waving at you. You immediately fake a smile back. "Come on, he's practically asking you for it," Jungkook pushes you in front of them, where Taehyung was now walking to.
"Hello Y/N, fancy seeing you here."
"Well, I do attend this school so..." You look back at your friends, who are observing your every move. You mentally cursed at them.
"I'm just joking," he says, and smoothly slips his hand into yours. "Do you live around here?"
"Umm, yeah, like, five streets away."
"Me too! Do you want to walk home together?" he looks so happy, it's cute. You've been surrounded with the same people for so long that you missed the feeling of making a new friend. Not that our friendship is real, anyway.
You take a last look at your friends, who are gesturing you to go with him. You stick your tongue out at them before turning to face Taehyung again. "Sure."
"Yay! Let's go. Do you want to say bye-bye to your friends first?"
You try to contain a giggle. The way he talks is so childish. "No need, Tae. Let's go."
As you're walking home, Taehyung tells you all about his pet parrot, and that he hasn't seen him in ages ever since he moved into his own apartment nearby. He recalls all the memories of the parrot saying things in moments that he shouldn't, and how sometimes, he himself does that too.
Then he proceeds to tell you about all his bad habits, like interrupting people when they talk, or biting his nails, or giving people nicknames which they don't like.
All this time, you've been listening intently, noticing how the boy talks so passionately about the things he loves. You see the glint in his dark brown eyes as they look into yours, the smile that forms when you ask questions and show interest in his life. You feel the way he is still tightly gripping your hand, and how sweaty both your hands are. You also feel the way your heart seems to jump everytime he says your name, but you choose to ignore that part. It's probably because you're tired from walking.
You're both standing in front of your apartment when you say something you never thought you'd say to Taehyung. "Wanna come in, have a cup of coffee or something?"
He looks at you blankly, but then shakes his head. "Thank you for your kind offer, Y/N, but I shouldn't bother you anymore. I probably gave you a headache from all my useless talking. I get carried away sometimes..."
You smile at him. "You didn't give me a headache, but I think you might be feeling thirsty, since you did kind of get carried away."
He laughs nervously, "I'm sorry."
