This was the third bank robbery we were supposed to stop this month. It was my turn to be on the inside, which is typically the role that gets the most action, so of course I was thrilled. As of yet, though, nothing was happening.

I sat in the waiting area, looking over the people in the building.

Two men loitered near the front by the doors, their long coats bulging with right angles. Another guy was in line, his hand hovering over his pocket.

I'd assume they were waiting for a queue, otherwise they should've started already.

"What's going on in there?" David yelled into my ear.

Adjusting the volume slightly on my earpiece, I casually replied, "It's really slow in here today."

There was a bit of rustling for a moment before Maria came on. "How many and what are they packing?"

"Just three," I said more quietly. "Not including a G.A. But they could be waiting for someone else..."

I trailed off as the man in line walked up to the register. This could be it.

    "Get ready," I whispered.

There was radio silence as I intently watched. He was shaky, but he didn't make a move for his weapon. He went through shaking his head to the teller as he spoke in a hushed voice. The young woman behind the counter suddenly looked very distraught.

"Stella, what's happening?" Maria asked. "Should we go in?"

The teller nodded to the man and walked out of view for a few moments before bringing back an older gentleman.

"I don't know, something doesn't seem right. Can you have Ellie sent in?" I slowly stood up, keeping my eyes on the man at the counter.

    "Right away."

I took a deep breath. I thought I had gotten used to being a superhero. Looking at my shaking hands, maybe not.

It only took a few seconds for Ellie to come in. She was a newer member but had already become an extremely useful asset to the team.

A hint of a smile came over my face as she skipped over to me.

"Hey, sorry we had to meet here, but I'm still waiting for a banker," I said as we both sat down. What's happening over there? I asked her, tilting my head slightly toward the bank tellers window.

She looked over, breathing deeply and occasionally squinting her eyes. After a moment, she looked over to me with her eyes wide. Stella, I don't think he's trying to rob the bank.

My face went blank. Then what-

A loud noise stopped my thoughts. We both turned towards the entrance where a wall of black replaced what had been the outside world.

"Maria, David?" I said, frantically into my mic. I turned towards Ellie. "Can you reach them?"

    She shook her head.

    Great. Deep breath.

I felt bad for bringing Ellie in now. Not much I could do about that, though.

The people inside were already freaking out, but the men who had been near the entrance were gone. I looked back over to the guy at the teller window, but he had vanished as well.

At this point, I wasn't entirely sure how to proceed. We weren't supposed to make a move until something illegal takes place. Still, we needed to know what was happening.
