Part 10: He, The One Who Lets Her Go

"Adi, Adi, wake up please" Zoya shook his shoulder, when his eyes shot open. "Mein toh bas mazaak kar ra tha"

Zoya stood up, shoving him back down "Bewaqoof ho tum, I was so worried, i'm not talking to you right now" she went to walk away when Adi grabbed her hand

"Im sorry, im sorry, I know it wasn't a good joke, I just wanted to lighten the air, im not going to go back to that place Zoya, I wont end up in hospital again" he was stood up now, holding her hands with his, the look in his eyes was sincere, yet Zoya was still worried

"I, I need to talk to Rajveer, I can't do this behind his back"

Adi nodded "I understand, call me after"

"Listen, I know, I know that we are engaged, but I can't marry you, I love Adi, I always have and I always will, and he loves me, I know the timing is horrible, but" Zoya was cut off when Rajveer grabbed her arms

"But what about the time he didnt love you, the month he ignored you, I want to give you the love you deserve, the love he could never give you, suddenly you get engaged and then he wants you again, I can give you everything you have ever wanted, everything you deserve, please Zoya" Rajveer begged, his eyes teary

"I know, I know how this looks, but I know Adi loves me, for real, deep down he always did and how can I marry you when I will always love him, I am sorry, so sorry for hurting you because I never wanted to, but I thought I could move on and I can't and that was my mistake" she pulled away from his hold, pulling of her engagement ring and handing it to him

"I love you Zoya, you know how it feels to have your heart broken, so why are you breaking mine, you made a promise to me, and to Waseem Uncle, and that promise was to marry me, how is it fair that Adi waltzes back into your life and suddenly you're his again, what about that month Zoya, what about all those months you pleaded for his love and he never gave it, now youre going to turn me down when all I have ever done is love you, that is unfair, time changes everything, are you really going to go back on your promise" Rajveer's eyebrow raised waiting for her to answer

Zoya picked up the phone "Adi, can we meet, I need to talk to you"

"Its done right, you told him you didnt want to marry him"

"Please, can we just talk face to face" she begged

"I'll be right there"

Adi slammed the car door, he looked up at Zoya, and he knew. "You're going to marry him aren't you"

Zoya looked away tearfully "I made a promise"

He tipped her chin up "And what about your promise to love me" his chest was tight at the thought of her being in someone else's arms.

"I will always love you, but Rajveer is right, I cant just return to you now you are back, he loves me Adi"

He cupped her face "But I love you Zoya, and you love me, I know you will never love him, he can't ever make you feel the way I do, you know that, I know that, damn, he knows that, is my love not enough for you"

Zoya flinched at the tear that fell down his cheek, she watched as he stepped back "Your love is more than enough for me, but I have to keep my promise, time changes everything, maybe I will be happy with him one day"

Adi shook his head "If thats what you truly think, then fine, but dont expect me to be stood there when you marry another man, if he really loved you, he would want you to be happy and he knows your happineas doesnt lie with him" he turned around, walking away, his fists clenched he shut his eyes tightly "Ek akri baar Zoya"

Zoya let out a sob, she watched as he turned back to face her "I love you silly" her face crumpled

"I love you to beautiful, if he ever hurts you Zoya, I will kill him with my own hands"

Zoya nodded, she knew that wasn't a threat, it was a promise. If only Adi had never left, none of this would have happened.

Waseem had decided to have the marriage done quickly, he didnt want Zoya to back out. He glanced over at her, she smiled up at him sadly.

Roshana grabbed his arm "This is wrong, we can all see she loves Adi, let her go Waseem" she begged

Waseem shook his head "Adi isnt good enough for my Zoya, if he loved her, he never would have left"

Roshana stood up "Maybe he loved her and thats why he left, did you ever consider that, she should be allowed to make her own choices"

Adi downed yet another glass of alcohol, his head was spinning and he still hadn't slept. He grabbed his phone, typing a text 'Have a good wedding Zoya, I hope he keeps you happy, even if he does anything slightly wrong, you call me' he walked slowly over to his car and started it.

Rajveer looked up at Zoya "Zoya, I dont really know much about you, do you mind if I ask you some questions"

She shrugged

"What's your faviourate film"

"Maine pyaar kiya" she sighed, how fitting.

"I hate that film, dont ever expect me to watch it with you"

Zoya laughed sadly "So did he"

"Did he watch it with you" Rajveer crossed his arms

She nodded again "All the time, he even sang the songs to me" she looked around "I think we should go and get married now"

Adi's vision went blurry as tears continued to pour from his eyes, he gripped the steering wheel tightly and pushed his foot down.

Zoya looked up at Rajveer as he pinched the sindoor, holding it between his fingers he raised his hand above her head.

Adi hummed softly to the radio, his eyes widened as he smashed into the car infront of him, his head hit the steering wheel loudly, 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' still playing loudly on the radio.

Zoya closed her eyes tightly, not wanting to watch Rajveer put the sindoor on her forehead.
