Chapter 8 (from Spencer's point of view):

Spencer walked slowly behind Mona and Lucas up to a small motel called The Lost Woods Resort, her heart hammering in her chest. She still couldn't believe one of her closest friends was scheming with Mona Vanderwaal to bring down Alison DiLaurentis, and she had no idea what she was about to get herself into. Lucas held the door open for Spencer and Mona as they entered Room 2, and the first thought that went through Spencer's head was that -A sure knew how to keep a place organized.

"She's not here, yet,.Mona said to her, walking over to the couch. "Feel free to make yourself at home. We're all here for the same reasons..

Spencer swallowed, unsure of how true Mona's words really were. She stayed where she was, studying -A's book selections in the far end of the room-they ranged from romance novels to Sci-Fi's, to volumes and volumes of horrors and ancient torture techniques. She never would've expected -A would be into such gruesome literature, but then again, she hardly knew this side of her.

Lucas closed the door behind him, and walked toward the tiny table in the center of the room. He pulled out a chair, and gestured for Spencer to sit. "This obviously hasn't sunken in yet, so it's probably best you take a seat before you pass out..

She shot him a look. "I'm fine, thank you..But it was a lie. Spencer was anything but fine. She was terrified about what types of things -A knew about her, and what she was going to have to do to her friends in order to stop Alison and her twisted games. The truth was, a part of her was always going to care about Ali, because it just wasn't in her nature to hate. But the blonde had been getting on her nerves so much, lately, and she knew that after overhearing -A's conversation with Mona earlier that day, she had no choice but to join the Team.

Mona pulled out her cell phone just as she received a text. "Oh,.she said, standing up. "That was -A. Her cab just pulled into the driveway..

Spencer's heart began beating faster and faster as she anticipated -A's arrival, knowing that in just a few seconds, her life was going to slip from her control. She was going to be a puppet, just like Lucas and Mona were to -A. She still couldn't get the awful memory of -A pushing Mona up against the wall out of her head. She was a lot stronger than she looked.

When -A entered the room, she had a devilish smirk on her face. "Well hello, Spencer. How nice of you to join us..

She just gave the girl a nervous smile, at a loss for words. -A's voice sounded nothing like the sweet, understanding one she was so used to. Was seeking revenge on Alison going to do that to her, too? Make her almost unrecognizable?

"Lucas, Mona, could you please wait outside for a moment?.-A asked her other two helpers. Without argument, the two left the room, leaving Spencer alone with -A. She was sure she was going to faint. -A must've detected Spencer's fear, because the sly look on her face instantly changed to one of sympathy, and she began to turn back into the girl Spencer had known for over a year. "I never intended for you to find out..

Spencer crossed her arms, wondering if the other girl had noticed how badly her hands were shaking. "W-what happened to you?.

-A sighed. "There's probably a lot we're going to have to talk about. I know this is confusing for you. But just so you know, now that you've decided to be a part of this, you have to do whatever I tell you to. You don't get special treatment just because I actually care about you..

"I know that,.Spencer said. "I've thought about it over and over again. But I don't really have a choice, do I?.

The other girl shook her head. "No, you don't..She walked over to Spencer, and held her hand out to her. "Give me your phone..

Spencer gave her a puzzled look. "What? Why?.

-A rolled her eyes. "I need to show you how to block your number when you're sending texts and making calls.. You can't just write whatever you want and expect not to be noticed..

"Oh, right..She pulled her cell phone out of her pocket, and handed it to -A. She exhaled deeply, and slowly sat down in the chair Lucas had offered her just minutes before. "By joining your team, does that mean we can't be friends anymore?.

Her superior laughed. "Who I am in school is not the same person as I am right here. I guarantee you're not going to agree with half the things I make you do, but it doesn't change anything between us at school.. We need to pretend like nothing happened..

Spencer nodded. "That's what I thought..She leaned back in her chair, beginning to unwind a bit. "So why Mona? And Lucas?.

-A took the back off Spencer's phone, and examined the battery. "Both of them hate Alison, and want to take her down. Mona wants to be popular, and I kind of promised her she could be if she does what I tell her to.. As for Lucas, he really just wants to see Alison get overthrown..

"What about you?.she asked her.

"I have a personal vendetta against Alison. Same as you..She glanced up at Spencer over the phone. "I already know all of your secrets. I know how Alison's been treating you, and I know why you're doing what you're doing..

Spencer felt herself looking away. For some reason, hearing -A say that made her uneasy. "How do you know so much?.

-A set the phone down on the table, but kept playing with the battery in her hands. "Same as you. I do my research..She stepped back from her, and walked over to the door. She opened it, and let Lucas and Mona back in. "Okay, we've got to set some things straight..
