Running from my mate

"But it's just a bunch of weird signs in a random order." Grey states.

"Well yeah." I reply. How am I going to explain to her what I see? "But their words in my head, it's weird. I understand what it says but I also don't."

"What?"

"I can read what it says but I still don't understand what's going on with me. None of these descriptions or drawings look like me." I say as I show her some of the drawings.

"No, you definitely don't have two tails." I laugh at Greys remark.

"What about the things you do know?" Grey asks.

"Well I read about shifting and found something about powers."

"Great! That's a start. But you'll need help," Grey says and grabs her phone. "I'll text Alex and Axel to meet us at the beach by six, we've got some testing to do."

I'm half asleep at the lunch table, tiredly pleading for this school day to end.

"I'm going to the toilet." Lisa states.

"I'll come with you." Elena offers and they walk away together.

I have to use the bathroom as well but I'm just not in the mood to get up. I probably should get up though... never mind I don't have to pee I'm just zoning out again.

"Hey!" A loud voice shouts enthusiastically. I see Mika running up to us with a big smile on his face. He sits down on the chair in front of me.

"Oh hey Mike-"

"Mika-"

"Whatever." Grey greets Mika.

"So how are things, everything good with the, you know," he says and proceeds to lean in close and whisper "The tail situation?"

"It's going great I guess. It has not made any random appearances just yet. We're going to test a couple of thing later today, we'll see how that goes." I shrug.

"Sounds fun, can I join?" Mika asks. I look at Grey as if asking her for permission

Grey thinks for a moment and looks Mika dead in the eye. "Have you told anyone?"

"No- no! I haven't and I won't, I promise." He says and raises his hands in defense.

"Fine you can come, give me you phone that I'll add you to the group."

"Guess who's back." Lisa announces and slides into the seat next to Mika. She looks at him before offering him her hand.

"Hey, I'm Lisa." But she doesn't get a response. Mikas eyes are trained on something or rather someone else.

"Mine." He almost whispers as he stares at Elena.

I take a deep breath and stare at the gentle waves rolling onto the breath. I dig my toes in the sand and exhale a shaky breath.

My whole body is aching, like it's forcing me towards the water. I can practically task the salt.

I rest my head on my knees and hug my legs tightly.
