GET TO KNOW HIS FRIENDS
Here's a back door approach to get to know a guy, or be around him more, that also works wonders. Get to know one of his friends, but only in a friendly manner. For instance, if one of his friends is in your classes, try to talk to them more.
Don't come to them, or they might get the wrong ideas but try to make casual conversation with someone your guy hangs out with. You can even do this in a work setting too.
Start communicating with anyone your guy knows, which will ensure you that you'll have someone who can put a good word in for you later. It also gives you an idea of the kind of people he hangs out with.
