Kenna's POV

I have the best life ever. One that probably everyone craves for. A carefree one.

My name is Kenna Joy. I graduated a week ago. I work as a part-time barrister at Starbucks.

I live with my mom (my aunt, whom I have addressed as mom since my parents passed away) in our ''fancy'' apartment. I use the word ''fancy'' because it is really, really huge for just the two of us. It has three bedrooms. Mom converted one bedroom into a mini-library because she loves reading. And so do I.

My aunt Erin didn't marry her boyfriend, Jed. I remember him coming over to our house when my mommy and daddy were alive. He'd spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with us. My parents and I really liked him.

After my parents died, he decided to marry my aunt, but he didn't want me to live with them. My aunt clearly decided against it.

That's when I started addressing my aunt as my mom. I lost my immediate family, and she chose not to have a family because of me.

So, it's been just mom and me since then.

Mom got me into one of the best schools and colleges in town. I guess she earned pretty well because she'd never compromise on anything.

She loved me and my best friend since second grade, Ally, with all her heart.

I knew Ally ever since she moved into my primary school, and we've been best friends since then. She was the total opposite of me. She never liked reading books.

But that's okay because opposites attract, right?

Present day:

Currently, I am with Ally in a park across from her home. I was going to spend the night at her place. We went to the cinema after my shift at Starbucks. It was an average movie. I'd prefer if it were a hard copy instead.

"Nerd"—that's what Ally calls me.

We were on the trampoline, having the time of our lives. We haven't been able to catch up for some time because of our finals and graduation stuff.

Kids around us in the park kept glaring at us and whispering to each other. Probably because we were too old to be on a trampoline? But I didn't care, and neither did Ally.

I didn't have a perfect childhood because I'd remember my mommy and daddy every single day. But my aunt made sure she gave me enough love and care and the best of everything, which meant the world to me.

I've loved how I'd call her mom, and she'd smile with tears in her eyes and give me the biggest hug.

Fifteen minutes later, Ally and I were still on the trampoline.

My head was giddy with excitement, and I felt the world blur past me. It was probably because of all the jumping and excitement on the trampoline.

My head is getting really dizzy, and I can feel myself falling before everything goes blank.

The next thing I know, I'm in a hospital.
