 CHAPTER  TWO

 

Maddi’s POV

 

“Maddi~ Come on! Mag-kwento ka na, please?” Pambihira. Simula pa lang ng biyahe namin hindi na tumigil sa kakakulit sakin si Eya, nagsisimula na akong marindi. I’m not in the mood to tell her anything just yet, what with the irritating jet lag and all pero mukhang hindi talaga titigil tong’ over-excited kong kaibigan. And anyway, there’s really no harm in indulging her—better na magsalita na ako than keep enduring her zealousness. Masakit na talaga sa ulo.

“Okay, okay! Eto na, mag ku-kwento na ko nang matahimik ka na…”

“WHA! Really!? YEHEY!” Sigaw ni Eya with matching palakpak pa. Bigla tuloy kami pinagtinginan ng mga tao dito sa Starbucks.

“Miss Eya!” I hissed at her, keeping my voice low. God, this girl… “Could you please calm down? And stop with the clapping! What are you, five? You’re creeping all these people out,” I subtly gestured sa iba pang patrons ng café to emphasize my point before pointing a thumb to myself, “including me!” I clicked my tongue and then straightened myself in a more comfortable sitting position, having been leaning too close to Eya before when I chastised her. Tiningnan ko sya ulit and to my dismay and mild irritation, naka-plaster pa rin sa mukha nya yung eager look. Napabuntung-hininga na lang ako before speaking, “Alright, just behave yourself while I tell you about my ‘adventures’ ha? Or else, titigil ako sa pag ku-kuwento at iiwanan ka dito. Understand?”

Immediately, Eya tried to compose her face into a more serious look, making a gesture of zipping her mouth shut. “Okay. I’ll behave now, promise.” She said but the expectant look in her eyes made me falter, again. Feeling ko parang nasiraan na yata to’ nang bait simula nang bumalik ako dito sa Pilipinas.

“Haaay. Alright.” I started, steeling myself para magkwento na just to finish this ridiculous ordeal faster. “During my stay in the States, I sorta’ tried being a bitch in the school I was attending there…” Nanlaki ng bahagya ang mga mata ni Eya upon hearing this, her lips parting slightly as she stared and listened to me in wonder. “All the other students were afraid of me to say the least, not just because of how I act pero dahil din sa lalaking gusto akong i-date.” I can see the smile starting to form from Eya’s mouth by now, humor tainting her eyes. “His name is Daniel and well… we dated—ONLY DATED for almost two years…” I emphasized that part because this is Eya I’m talking to right now, who knows kung anong information sa lahat ng pinagsasasabi ko ang matatandaan nya and god forbid, i-kwento nya sa family nya kapag nagkataon.

“After those two years I stopped dating him, realizing na nagsasawa na ako sa kanya.” Pagpapatuloy ko. “The one year which remained e binuhos ko na lang sa pambu-bully sa mga co-students ko. It was fun pero gradually nagsawa din ako. I was bored for a time pero suddenly, I thought na it’ll be a good idea to come back here to the Philippines so I decided right then and there to do just that! For the sake of new adventures if nothing else, so here I am. THE END.” What a long speech. Naubos ko na ata yung energy na binigay sakin ng inorder kong treat dahil lang sa pag ku-kwento. I looked at Eya na nakatulala pa rin habang dina-digest unti-unti ang lahat ng pinagsasabi ko while I started to sip my iced coffee again. Siya itong kanina pa excited tap—

“Oh.My.Gosh. ANG COOL NAMAN NG ADVENTURE MO DUN!!” biglang sigaw nitong si Eya, rendering me to almost spit my cold drink out in a most undignified way. Nasamhid ako and then felt a series of coughs coming out my throat.

“Hala! Maddi! Are you okay?” Eya’s worried voice reached my ears as I stifled my coughs with all my might, trying to calm myself down. Not a second later, naramdaman kong hinihimas na niya ang likod ko. Speechless talaga ako sa babaing to’. Konting hysterics lang nya nabibilaukan na agad ako sa kung anumang iniinom ko. Napa-‘Tsss’ na lang ako as usual ng matapos ko nang iayos ang sarili ko. Speechless nga di ba?
