Song of the chapter - Someone to stay by Vancouver Sleep Clinic

Blair

I heard rustling, interrupting my slumber and I quickly opened my eyes to see Grace patting the now not lit, fire. I sat up slowly and let my eyes adjust to the brightness of the bright blue sky. As I crossed my legs, I rubbed my eyes and yawned. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. I was gonna let you sleep for longer." She said and I shook my head.

"No, I needed to wake. We shoulder probably get moving anyway." I said and stood up, stretching my arms out for the sky. "Yeah, your probably right." She admitted and she grabbed her backpack, throwing it over her back. "Let's get movin'." She smiled and we started to walk through the woods.

Me and Grace had no clue where we were going but it was nice knowing we didn't have a plan on where abouts we were headed. Many trees surrounded us and the tweets of birds were louder than ever. I don't think it is actually morning due to the sun getting more of a dark yellow. It must be the middle of the day.

"Blair?" I heard her voice and I looked over at her. I waited for her to say what she needed to say as she fiddled with her gun in her hand. "I didn't ask you what you were planning to do last night?" She said and I sighed, chuckling slightly at the same time. "To be honest, I don't have anything in plan at the moment. I don't think I will." I answered honestly and she nodded.

"I mean if you want. You can come with me. I'm not sure where I'm going but I'm sure it'd be nice to have company." She smiled and I stared at her. "That's be nice actually. Thank you." I smiled at her and she nodded. Suddenly, loud rustles of bushes caught mine and Grace's attention. I pointed my gun and she done to exact same, towards the way where the noise was coming from.

About four walkers came stumbling out and got quicker with their movements as they seen us. "You get that two I'll get the other." I said and she nodded, walking up to two of the walkers and fighting them off. I used my usual technique and Kicked one in the leg, making it fall to the ground.

The other walker grabbed a hold of me and I grabbed it's shoulder, shoving it against a tree. I pointed the gun directly below it's head and pulled the trigger. It fell to the ground, dead and I finally walked over to the other one, stabbing it instead of shooting. I turned around and heard Grace struggling with one of the walkers.

It was on top of her and inches away from her face. I quickly ran up to it and pulled it's shoulders. I pushed it to the ground and stabbed it in the head. I pulled out my knife and saw Grace stand up, brushing her jeans off. "Thanks." She panted, staring at me. "No problem." I said and she sighed once again. Then, we continued to walk.

Me and Grace have been walking for about an twenty minutes now and we finally saw an exit from the woods. We were finally on a road. We were on a road with a car in the distance. "Jackpot, There might be some food or water in there for us." She said and we started jogging up to the car. The closer we got the more excited I got.

I need a drink of water. Oh, what I'd do for a bottle of fresh cold water. As we approached it, one of the car doors was open and I wiped the dirt from the back windows to see if there was anything dangerous inside. As Grace jumped in the front seat, I done the exact same thing and searched the pockets.

We shut ourselves inside the car and she continued to search the backseats from the front seat. "YES!" She yelled and I quickly turned towards her, seeing in her hands was one bottle of water. I smiled and my mouth watered at the thought of me finally being at least a little bit hydrated. She opened the lid and wiped it with her shirt making sure it was clean.

She took a swig of the water and sighed into it as soon as it hit her mouth. She removed her mouth from the bottle and she left me half to drink myself too. "Ahh, that was good." She smiled as I drank the rest of the water. It was so nice to have clean water into my system and not dirty, muddy water.

"I'll keep the bottle in case we pass a lake or something." I said and she nodded. "Good idea." Grace grabbed a hold of something from the wheel area and it was the car keys. She held them in front of me and I smiled. "Please, work." She whispered to herself and she tried to turn the keys but all the car was doing was jumping and stopping. It wasn't going to start.

Here's me thinking that me and Grace have been good people and we need a bit of good luck right now. But I guess the water was enough. "FUCK!" She screamed, banging onto the wheel. "What's the point!" She yelled again and I stayed quiet right now. Grace needed a little bit of hope and this wasn't helping her right now.

Once again, in the distance I could see about seven walkers stumbling towards the car only a few meters away. I looked over at Grace and she shook her head. "I'll get them-" "What! No!" I yelled, cutting her off as she was about to get out the car. "Blair I can handle this!" She fought back. "We can do this together!" I yelled and she shook her head.

"I'm sorry Blair, I have to do this. You need a chance to live a life and I... I'm in crazy world if I think I'm going to see my mom again. I'm not." She said as multiple tears fell out of her eyes. My eyes watered just at the sight of her crying. She was the only thing I have right now and I didn't want her to kill herself over this. I can help.

"Your going to see your mom again Grace. Please just let me help." I said as a few tears streamed down my cheeks. She sniffed and quickly opened the car door and shutting it behind her immediately. I reacted fast and went to pull the handle of my door but she had the car keys and she locked it before I could open the door.

I looked at her and cried to myself. I shook my head at the sight of walkers making their way up to Grace. She cried and pushed on the walkers chest. "NO! GRACE PLEASE! PLEASE!" I screamed and banged on my window, seeing her get taken to the ground by the walkers. The walkers were ripping into her flesh and I sobbed at the sight.

"GRACE NO!" I sobbed and banged on the window multiple times. Grace was gone. She was the only girl who risked her very own life to save my own. I sobbed to myself and it got harder and harder to not go out there and do exactly what she just done. I ran my hands through my hair and cried. It came to realization that I was alone once again.
