CHAPTER 1

The Fox

It's starting to get really, really busy. My phone rings from a dozen calls from my manager. The music down the ballhall starts to bang the entire hotel. And two dozen pairs of feet shuffle here and there outside my hotel room every now and then. Everybody's preparing. Pero wala pa rin akong gana. Gusto ko lang manatili sa kwarto ko.

Gusto kong manatili dito na nakahiga lang sa kama na kasama siya. Habang hinihimas-himas niya ang buhok ko. Habang nakapatong ang ulo ko sa dibdib niya at pinakikinggan ang bawat tibok ng puso niya. Habang nakapatay lahat ng ilaw at nakatutok lang sa Netflix buong magdamag. Habang balot-balot kaming dalawa sa isa't isa. 

Gustong-gusto kong manatili dito na ganito lang. Malayo sa lahat ng pressure na umaaligid sa amin. Sa lahat ng mga matang sobrang mapanghusga. Malayo sa realidad.

It's really these moments that I really want to capture and put in a frame inside my heart. It's moments like these that I really wanna hold on to for the rest of my life. Moments that offers too much and moments that I could never get enough.

Moments with Allyza Brantum. The love of my life.

"I really should get going," sabi niya at tumayo na. Sumimangot naman ako habang tumungo siya sa malaking salamin sa tabi ng kama at tinali ang buhok niya, "The sun is down and I still have to dress up for the night."

"Come on. Just another hour," pagpupumilit ko habang palaro ko siyang hinihila pabalik sa kama, "I wanna spend time with you. Bakit ba dapat tayong pumunta sa party na 'yan? We can just ditch it and run away towards the woods for the night. You know, name some constellations while we're sitting on an old branch, hunt for some deer and stuffs--"

"Ano ka ba, Aldrin," natatawa niyang sabi, "Dapat tayong pumunta doon. May red carpets pa kaya tayong dapat puntahan," hinila niya ang kamay ko para makatayo ako, "At ikaw, Mr. President, ay may marami pang interviews na dapat daluhan. Kaya kung ako sa'yo, magbibihis na ako."

"Ayoko naman sa suit na gawa sakin ng designer ko eh. Sobrang dami masyadong bato. Napakakintab," reklamo ko at bumagsak pabalik sa kama, "Magmumukha lang akong disco ball doon."

"Then, wear something else," sabi niya naman at pumunta na sa closet ko, "You want me to pick one for you?"

"Go ahead, I don't mind," sabi ko bumalik sa paghiga, "Besides, I only wanna look good for you."

Tumingin siya sa akin and--oh God that smile. It's her perfect way of killing my heart in an endless loop of joy. It's like a cage of happiness I don't wanna get out of, "Well, not tonight Mr. Refran you're not. Dadating yung sponsor natin mula sa England at makikisalo sa atin sa party. You have to look princely for him, too, you know. Not to mention his entourage of paparazzi."

Oo nga pala. Tonight, this rich guy from England throws this party for our whole class and is pretty eager to meet us all 53 people in person. Sobrang obsessed niya talaga sa section namin, talagang masasabi ko. Because besides the fact that he sponsored our stay here in a 5-star hotel in the middle of the woods of Oregon, USA, he invited the media into the party tonight. Which means more expense for food and more expense for security.

I haven't met this guy yet but one thing is for sure. Dude's all out with the expenses.

However, I can't really blame him. Other people would do the same thing if they only have the same amount of money this mystery guy has. Everybody just adores us. Kilala kasi ang section namin bilang "the perfect class". And I'm not trying to be narcissistic or conceited. May maraming articles na magpapatunay sa punto ko.
