"The Glade? Do people even use that word anymore?"
"I guess this place is kinda a glade,"
"Aren't glades supposed to be surrounded by woods?"
"I don't know, I don't think I even know what a glade is,"
"Does that make us gladers?"
"I guess,"
I started to space out. Some of these guys aren't the brightest, but, man, they talk a lot. I guess I'll be spending a lot of time with them, so I should probably get used to it.
"Where are we supposed to put all of this stuff?"
"Um, I guess we should take the bathroom stuff to the bathroom and see if there's room to store the toilet paper and stuff in there." Nick replied, "And then I guess we need to start building stuff."
There was some argument over whether we should start building a kitchen or a place to sleep first. Eventually, no one really won, and we decided to just kinda start building something, anything. The blond volunteered to take the bathroom stuff to the bathroom, and the rest of us got started on building a wall. According to the compass we found, we were building in the northwest corner of the glade. Man, that word is weird to even think. As expected there was a lot of arguing over how to build a wall. They argued over anything and everything. How big the wall should be, if we should go to the forest to get more wood, how we should build the wall, if half of us should start on another wall.
About 5 hours later we had a scraggly looking wall. We leaned the new wall onto the giant concrete one. It was surprising how much wood could fit in the box along with so much other stuff, but we built a wall. We were all feeling pretty accomplished, especially me. I, honestly did kinda well. I didn't smash my fingers or anything! The sky was starting to darken, so I looked at my watch, 6:26 PM. Based on the sun, the walls were probably gonna close soon. At least I hoped so.
"Maybe we should eat, I'm starving," Ted said. That dude was always hungry, but I couldn't blame him; I was hungry too.
"Maybe tomorrow we plant the seeds, I mean we have a lot of garden tools." I chimed in.
"No fucking way. Tomorow I'm going out the doors." Of course Minho had said this. I really have no idea why he wanted to leave our little safe haven. I guess I'm just an anxious person, but some of the other guys seemed to agree that we should go outside of the glade.
The doors chose this moment to close. We all quickly looked at our watches. 6:30 exactly.
"Okay, fine. We really do need to figure out what's out there and if that's how we can get out of here." Nick said this. He was kinda starting to be a mediator. "Maybe half of us stay here and start planting, and the other half of us go and see whats out there."
