[ CHAPTER NINE OLD MEMORIES ]
DYLAN SPRAYBERRY

❝This has got to be the worst plan, in the history of plans. ❞

When I got the call at 1 am, I knew, deep down, I should have just ignored it. Instead, I answered it, hearing the little whine of Dylan Sprayberry coming through my speaker.

Before I even had the chance to question him, he started explaining everything to me, and eventually, got me to agree with him. The little shit.

DYLAN O'BRIEN

❝You look like shit, ❞ I looked up in the mirror, the lights shinning from around the frame. Sprayberry stood behind me, his eyes showing a tired glaze, surrounded by the dark circles swallowing them. He looked almost identical to me. I guess the both of us haven't gotten much sleep.
❝Right back at you, ❞ my voice croaks, my eyes switching from my reflection to his. Sprayberry cocks a small smile, his eyes wavering over me uncertainly. ❝ Set in 5!❞a voice yells through the trailer door, and we both glance over at it. I straighten out my shirt on last time before heading towards the door, Sprayberrys arm stopping me from moving forward. ❝Do you like surprises? ❞ I blink in confusion at his question, my eyebrows furrowing together. The small smirk that's playing across his lips only makes the knot in my stomach tighten. ❝I guess? ❞

I felt like I was going to throw up, all over everything. Including Stephanie, who was standing in front of me. Her mouth twitched, her nerves on end as she was looking at me with disbelief in her eyes.
❝ Angela, please cut the shit, I can help you- with whatever it is. Are you in danger? Is someone coming after you?-❞ my laugh cuts her off before she can continue, and I shake my head.
❝I'm going to SanDiego, meet with Dylan Sprayberry, and get my ex-boyfriend back.❞
She narrows her eyes, her cheeks sucked in as she opens her mouth, ready to retaliate some cheeky remark as my ringtone interrupts, my fingers shaking slightly as I go to grab it from my back pocket.
I glance down at the name, swiping to accept as I glance towards Stephanie.
❝Hey Sprayberry, ❞
Stephanie glares at me, her feet moving towards me as she presses her ear against the phone, allowing her self into the conversation.
❝Hey Angela, are you ready? You've got everything packed? ❞
Soon I explain to Stephanie about the biggest secret I've ever had.

FLASHBACK

❝ You've been gone, where the fuck have you been, Dylan?-❞ An angry sigh leaves my pursed lips as I pace back and forth my bedroom, my eyebrows knitting together as I argue with him over the phone.
❝I got a job offer, I'm sorry- ❞ my eyes fill with unnecessary tears, my fingers quickly swiping them away as I interrupt his voice, mine coming out shaky and unstable.
❝why would you not tell me? I feel used, I feel betrayed. We've been best friend for so long, and then the other night happens, and then you disappear. I had to find out, from your mother Dylan. That my very own boyfriend decided to pack up and leave, I just don't understand.❞
I stopped pacing, my feet planting firmly into my carpeted floor, toes curling as I wait for his response. It takes a minute, and I can just imagine his mouth opening and shutting a couple times before he actually figured out what to say.
❝I wanted to say goodbye, I did babe. I wanted to wrap my arms around you, tell you the good news. But I was also told that it was only for a couple days- this audition could change everything, this could kick start my life. It all happened so fast, and I just thought I'd get it over with so that I could come home to you and celebrate. But-❞
