Chapter Twenty-eight: Not Being Outdone By A Novice

Start from the beginning

About six hours and twenty-four Wolves healed by Dax alone, later, it is now four in the morning. A little over half of the affected Wolves are now Magical-virus free and on their way to making a full recovery. Dax is half way though charging up again when his energy use finally catches up to him, which causes him to fall to the ground in a heap. I run to him calling his name a few times with no response. He's out cold.

"Hayden," Irelia calls to the beefy Witch. "Go get three more healers and tell them to focus on healing Dax," she says tiredly then turns to me as Hayden runs out of the building. "After these eight, I need to rest. I won't be out like Dax will, but I'll probably sleep for twelve hours." I nod my head.

"Its ok, you and your Witches have done more than enough for tonight, everyone needs to rest," I say as I watch her finish breaking a spell. "If you want, you can stay in the pack house?" I offer as I pick up Dax bridal style.

"I will take you up on that offer," she says tiredly.

I nod then walk from the infirmary, out into the yard, and through the back doors of the pack house. Irelia follows me so I direct her to an unused room on the second floor. I leave her to sleep while I carry Dax up and into our room. Hayden shows up with three other Witches a few minutes later and they begin to heal him.

"I am going to station guards here to keep you all protected and for you to let me know of any changes," I tell them.

'Jess, I trust you and Charlie will be up to the task of keeping Dax safe?' I ask through the link.

'You would trust me to do that?' She asks.

'I think you would do anything to make sure that Charlies best friend and the mate of the Alpha is safe. So yes, I do trust you with this task,' I reply.

'We will keep him safe.'

I look at Hayden. "Do you have any instructions from Irelia?" I ask him. He shakes his head no. "Alright, will you stay here and keep him safe until she does?" I ask.

"Yes, I would be honored to keep watch over him," Hayden says with a nod.

"Thank you, I'll have two of my Wolves stationed outside the door in case you or the healers need anything," I say as I walk to the door.

"Ok, I'm sure everything will be fine up here," he says. I nod then leave the room.

'Come see me for a bit,' my dad says through the link to me.

'You're awake?' I ask as I quickly make my way down the steps.

'Yes,' he says as I walk out of the door and into the yard.

I make my way back to the infirmary and walk through the doors to see my dad sitting up in his bed.

"I am glad you are ok," I say as I walk up to him and give him a hug. He hugs me back then pulls away.

"I've heard what you've been doing, and I'm damn proud of you Russell," he says with a smile on his face. "Your mom should be back soon. She freaked out after I told her what was going on." I chuckle.

"I bet she did. How has her sister been? I can't imagine its easy moving to an entirely new country even if she's doing it for a mate," I say.

"Julia is doing fine. I wanted to talk to you about something though. You have now found your mate, and that means you can become Alpha. When your mother gets back, we'll start planning for yours and Dax's ascension, along with Emma and Olivers," Dad says.

"I get that its important but, that's the farthest thing from my mind right now. Dax is currently down for using too much Magical energy. It'll take a few days for those who were affected by the virus to regain their strength, and with Dax and I here, that puts the pack in even more danger because we're being targeted by Clovis." I look away from him and look at all of the pack members in the huge room.

"There are so many here. I cant-won't allow him to hurt anyone else," I say, feeling upset.

"I know you won't," he responds. "But not all of it is on your shoulders. I am getting better now and will help you out-" before he can finish his sentence, a battle howl rings out.

I turn away from my dad then bolt for the door. 'What's going on?' I command through the link. I open the door to find War Wolves, from my pack, and Witches fighting Wolves I don't recognize.

'Clovis is here!' One of my members says, panic in their tone.

'Take them down! Do whatever you need to do to win,' I say to everyone.

"There you are little 'Alpha'" Clovis spits. I turn to my right to see him standing a few feet away from me.

Without a word, I lung at him attempting to land a solid hit to the face but he quickly dodges my attack. Before he can retaliate, I send another fist flying his way. My fist connects to his chest, knocking the air out of him. I take a step back then perform a roundhouse kick to the side of his face effectively knocking him to the ground.

"Being bested by the 'little Alpha'?" I mock him. "Submit!" I command but he ignores it then jumps up.

"Now!" He bellows his command. Before, I know it, ten of his Wolves surround me, holding handguns pointed right at my head. I can tell they have silver bullets in them since one is so close, I can see the bullet in the chamber.

'Protect Dax at all costs,' I say to Jess and Charlie right before I am knocked out by a blow to the head.

I groan in pain from the massive headache I have. The light coming through my eyelids even causes me pain.

"Oh good, you are awake!" Clovis says delightedly. I barely register his words as gravity flings me against the wall of whatever I am in. "Don't worry little Wolf, we are almost there." I can hear laughter echoing all around me as darkness consumes my vision once more.
