"do you think I'm special? do you think I'm nice?"

~One Republic

----------------------------------------------

Emily:

So here I was now: In the computer room of our school, staring at an empty page with my head full of thoughts. What should I write to a kid I don't even know?! I don't even know if it's a girl or a boy? HELP!

I looked over to my classmates and all of them were writing to their "soon-to-be-friends". And then there was me: awkwardly sitting on my chair, having no plan. Life's great!

I sighed and slowly started typing:

"Dear You"

I immediately deleted that again because that sounded just wrong and absolutely weird. How do you address someone you don't know? Hell, that E-Mail-pen-pal stuff is more complicated than I thought!

I cracked my knuckles and tried again:

"Dear stranger

First of all: HI!

You know it's really awkward to write to somebody if you don't even know what their name is, but since I love doing awkward, new things: Here we go!

I think first of all I'm gonna introduce myself to you, so at least one of us knows the name of the other one.

(I feel like I'm talking to myself here. REAALLY AWKWARD)

Anyway, my name is Emily Riggs. I'm 18 years old and my favourite colour is purple (random information yaay). I play volleyball and I love music. I like singing and I even play the piano (well I try to play it because trust me I suck). My favourite bands/singers are One Direction (don't judge me!), Eminem (bet you didn't expect that combination, did you?) and Demi Lovato.

(You probably realized by now that I love writing in brackets. Well, sorry if it bothers you but I'm not gonna change it.) :P

What else is there to say about me? Oh, I have a little brother, Jake, he's 16. But he's like a professional soccer player and lives in Spain since he plays for the U18 at Real Madrid. (I know that sounds unreal but I'm not joking.)

So as you may know I'm from the UK. To be precise I'm from Bournemouth (that's in the South directly at the coast). You may think that's amazing because we have a beach and all but it isn't that cool if you've been here for your whole life.

So, enough about me. Who are you? What do you like and blablabla. Just tell me about yourself. :)

This E-Mail thing is actually pretty exciting don't you think? It's really cool that we get to meet new people and it also means that we don't have English lessons all the time (because we get time to write these mails in the lessons). I love English, it's actually my favourite subject, apart from History but our teacher is sooooooo old (I mean really, really old, like he should be dead) and his lessons are so boring. But what should I do? I can't just try to scare him and hope he gets a heart attack (not that I tried that. I'd neveeer do that ;))

Well I have to stop now, the lesson is about to end...

Was really nice writing to you (more to myself but okay). And I hope you don't think I'm too crazy (I was just nervous)...

Hear from you soon!

Lots of Love

Emily"

I pressed "send" and shut my computer down. I really hoped that person was nice and I didn't scare him or her away with that letter.

The bell rang and everybody gathered their things together.

"Em!", my friend Lilly shouted over to me, "you're gonna come eating Lunch with us at "The Moon"? It's Monday, they have "Pasta Day"!" "They have "Pasta Day" every Monday Lil... But yeah, I'm coming", I answered. I felt tired and actually I just wanted to go to bed and sleep but I couldn't say no to my friends.

"Yay! And afterwards we could go to the beach a bit, yeah?" My other friend Amy asked.

"Sure", I mumbled and walked behind them, as they were chatting about what they would get for Lunch, "to the beach, like always..."
