Chapter 1

~Niena~

The heel of my hunting boot splashed slightly as i leaped over a small stream. Brown leaves crunched as i walked at a brisk pace. "Cendo ru!" (Damn it) i cursed out loud. Wind flapped my long dark hair into my face and i put it behind my elongated ear. i had been traveling for the past two weeks, nonstop for the last three days.

i was a Heilo. A race related loosely to elves and humans. Our ears point out more than an elf's by about an inch and a half. Stamina built to last, a very slow aging process, a powerful skinny body, and speed. And the real thing that sets us apart from all others? Not that we're better or anything, is our healing skills. Not only do we heal exceptionally quick, but it's also our magic. Our ancestors found out the secret to becoming masters in the art of performing medical miracles. Yes, we are not the only ones who can heal, we are just known for it.

Continuing on my way i reached the top of the small hill i was headed up. The trees were only spotted around here and there unlike a few miles ago when they were thick like mud.

"Ginle." (Finally) i breathed, cresting the hills top.

A quarter mile in front of me was what to me, was at first a shelter, and then a home. It was a gorgeous city built around and in a cavern. The cavern itself was the pit of a grand waterfall that centered all the buildings. It was the Ivory city of Viela, the largest thriving Hielo home. i descended the long zig zag stair case that led into the main entrance of the city.

"Ope, Niena! Ru gam dews yu kell." (Hello, Niena! It has been to long.) a familiar voice greeted me. i looked up as i passed through the huge opened gate. On one of the pillars that held the gate to a wall sat Belk.

"Du mas fuety yu sedup fe nast zyte le hoyt O ket ven mundle, scisko." (You just refuse to admit the last time we met i won our fight, idiot.) i smirked up at the kneeling Heilo guard. i Met Belk when i was around 113 years of age, which is when we look about 14 in human age. We age sort of like elves but longer i guess. i now was 157 in years and looking about 19 compared to a human.

"Fye gam fu dews vu kell?" (why has it been so long?) Belk asked me. He had jumped from his pillar, leaving his brother, Mattais, on the other. His brother never spoke, just sat upon his pillar and watched; he was a last resort with his powers.

"Fu gumt dews bait kell." (It hasn't been that long.) i replied. i didn't reveal my true purpose for being back at Viela.

"Fye dar du ol xachs ua vish?" (Why are you in such a rush?) Belk asked me as he followed me as i walked.

"O mas cabe hitenet yu new." (I just have somewhere to be.) i told him.

"Vu du dar garnet kivalty." (So you are still secretive.) he chuckled still behind me. i just smiled and shook my head. He can follow if he wishes, if his presence isn't needed at the meeting Calbo will let him know.
