Once upon a time, there was...
I find the highway and drive for hours with no sign of mimics at all. The sun barely peeks through the clouds now and is low in the sky. I realize we have spent the whole drive in silence.
I glance over at him and then look back at the road. I let out a loud sigh and drum my fingers on the steering wheel. "I wish we had some music," I finally say as I look at the radio.
"Not even music makes war a pleasant thing, darling," he says grimly as he gazes out the dirty window.
I give a solemn nod but then I chuckle, "You're right, but it would help to pass the time."
"Then why don't we speak of what the plan is? What do you hope your humans will do when we ask to hitch a ride across the ocean?" he asks doubtfully.

With brows furrowed, I purse my lips in thought at this. "I haven't actually thought of that. I mean, we could directly ask them if we can tag along and fight or we could stowaway."

"Sneak on board? Now that sounds more like my kind of game but are you sure we could manage such trickery?" He almost seems hesitant but then I can't decide if he was being sarcastic and teasing or not.
I laugh. "You're joking, right?"
"No," he says and looks at me with a frown.
I raise a brow. "You are the god of illusions and deceit! You literally have magic at the tip of your fingers. Can't you do some sort of invisibility voodoo or make us look like some of the soldiers?"
