(NOT JUST A LOKI STORY - this story is about many marvel characters with Esther Mason and Loki Laufeyson as the main characters - and also includes a Steve Rogers romance side story with... well you'll have to see :))))
~
Once upon a time, there was...
"No of course not... But there is one right behind us."
"What?!" I look behind our seats where his gaze is and that's when a tentacle shoves through the glass, shattering it like my ears as the appendage flails and the car rocks.
Loki has shot out ice as soon as I have screamed and lifted my hands. I realize how loud my shriek was and Loki clamps his hand over my mouth. Things are still for a moment... Is it dead?
We hold our breath and he lets me go...
A huge dent is suddenly slammed into the car roof and we both jump.
"Just drive!" He commands and grabs his rifle.
I slam my foot onto the gas pedal and hear the tires screech against the concrete before it lunges the car over the debris with a jerk. Loki fires mercilessly at the creature through the back windshield as I steer us around the chunks of building and other things thrown in the streets. The weight makes the vehicle slide but I try to keep control of it, both hands on the wheel as the demon jerks us around and Loki lets bullets bury into its flesh. But he can't seem to kill it.
A tentacle slams into the seat and makes me jolt to avoid it.
"Ah!" Loki complains through his teeth and sticks his hand out the passenger window that is shattered already, casting his fingers ahead of us.
I frown and watch as ice forms on the street where we are headed. "Loki," I say in a questioning tone.

"Trust me!"
We speed up and I grip the wheel as my heart races in my chest. And when we fly over the spot, an ice spike shoots up from the ground and straight into the monster stuck on our rear end. I hear a screech from it as it is torn from our vehicle and impaled in the ice.
Just like that we are free and shooting down the road, our hearts still an abnormal beat.
I grip the wheel tightly. "Well...," I pause and brush some hair out of my eyes, "that was one hell of a rush."

He doesn't reply for a second and then says, "You're welcome," rather plainly.
I roll my eyes.
I take us down the vacant streets as fast as I can without running over anything. Somehow this car ride is more eerie than the ride I took with Loki on the bike down here. You'd think I would be used to it by now. But there's something haunting about it all that gets to me as we drive, watching grey scale buildings with empty windows pass by... the clouds shrouding the sun's warm light. It feels as if it may rain but... never does.
