The Song

Adrien stood outside the News Station building, fidgeting with his hands.
Well, let's just hope for the best, he thought while swinging the door open and stepping inside.
His vision immediately drifted to the center of the room, where a beige table was set up. A girl with blue pigtails was bent over one of them, talking to an employee standing next to her.
She's already here?
"Uh, Hey Marinette!" Adrien smiled and waved the tiniest bit before walking over, hands in his pockets. She turned and smiled, inviting with a tinge of nervousness. "So, they're getting the available songs printed out right now, but Mrs. Shumack was explaining things about the contest  to me," She clarified with a grin. Adrien nodded, and since her enthusiasm was rubbing off on him, he found himself smiling. I should hang around her more often, he reflected. I definitely need more positivity in my life.
Just then, an employee emerged from the back of the studio, holding a paper filled with letters in black ink. They both sucked in a breath.
"There's only one category left- Radio Hits music."
He flipped the paper and slid it across the beige table, where two pairs of eyes devoured every word.

Well, that's a little embarrassing... Marinette thought to herself as she saw the first untaken song in the category. A romantic song would be so awkward! Wait- is that Jagged Stone? We should do that one!
Adrien was thinking the same thing, because he was turning to ask her if she wanted to do that one when another employee wrote two names in the space beside the song.
Both of their minds blanked for a second, and they missed the apology from the employee. Adrien was the first to speak.
"So, uh, would you like to do the Imagine Dragons one? I think I've heard it once or twice." Marinette nodded hesitantly. "Sure."
Adrien wrote their names down on the sheet.
The same employee from earlier went to the back room, returning a few minutes later with a paper in his hands. "Here's the lyrics," He gave the paper to Marinette. "See you both at the contest!"
"Thank you!" They said in unison, before walking out of the building, side by side.
"We could go to the park; look it over for a little while." Adrien suggested, looking at Marinette. She nodded, content. "Sure."

A short walk later, filled with small talk about family life and school, they arrived at the park and sat down at a wooden bench.

I didn't expect it to be about romance!!
"If you want, I'll be part 2, and you can be part 1," She suggested.
"Sure," he agreed.
After a few awkward goodbyes, they left the park and went home.
