We're dodging daggers that almost reach

Making mistakes they can never teach

But these silver clouds won't dissolve to black

Let's lose our feet to a leap of faith

And bigger skies that lie in wait

It's a long way down but i got your back

We're out on the edge of it all

Are you ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

We're out on the edge of it all

Are you ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

So feel the pull of an open thread

Unravel life till there's nothing left

It's a long way down but i got you now

We're out on the edge of it all

Are you ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

We're out on the edge of it all

Are you ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

Ready to freefall?

"You can't be serious."

There was a pause as Elisabeth seemed to consider his words. She was looking at her hands on the computer keyboard, stretching her fingers out and gently spreading them over the keys. She ran them over the smooth surface, keeping her index fingers on the "f" and the "j" keys, but letting her other fingers travel.

She looked up at him.

"I'm serious," she said.

"Where did this come from?" Shawn tried to keep his voice down, but his throat hurt from the effort. He wanted to shout at her. What the hell was this, he wanted to shout. What the hell?

He didn't want to ask about that guy. He was afraid of what she might say.

"I've been thinking about it."

Shawn looked at her sharply. What he saw dismayed him.

She was lying.

Why was she lying? Why?

This was almost an out-of-body experience. He could swear that he was leaning back in his office chair, watching Shawn Waterstone and Beth Burnham sweat it out, as if it were a movie.

Take a breath, he thought.

He took his breath.

She had gone back to evaluating her hands on the keyboard. He leaned over, reached out, picked up her left hand. He ran his thumb over her ring finger, rubbing it gently. His mind traveled to that long-distant day, when he had carried his mother's wedding band safely in his pocket as he waited in a darkened parking lot.

"This has all gone wrong," he said softly.

Startled, she looked up at him, but she did not pull her hand away.
