"What are we going to do?" I asked Tom after I told him about the changes in the pregnancy.

"I have no clue. I guess we are going to have double trouble," He sighed.

"Oh yay!" I said sarcastically.

By this time I was almost 12 weeks and beginning to show. People are school were going to start talking about me soon, especially the year 11 bullies, Ashlee and her gang. They are definitely going to have something to say.

When my next appointment came around, Tom asked if he could tag along. Of course I told him he could. I was glad he was making an effort. Although he was completely shitting himself he was there to support me. I think I was starting to fall for him.

Mum and Georgia came along again. I was only having an ultrasound this time, just to see if Dr Hocking could find the head of the other baby because last time we only saw a blob.

When I lifted up my shirt for Doc to put the slimy stuff on my stomach, I noticed for the first time, the little round bump sticking out. At home, I tried to avoid looking at it but it was hard not to now. I looked at Tom who was staring at the monitor, sweat pouring down his face and gulping every two seconds. I reach for his hand that was placed slightly on the bed where I was lying.

I felt the scanning thing touch my cold skin. She found the first baby and I squeezed Tom hand. He kneeled down next to me and put his chin on my arm. Aw!

Mary-Anne began to move the scanner again and then the same blob appeared on the screen.

"Oh!" Dr Hocking said shocked.

"What is it?" I stared at her.

"It’s not a second baby. You aren’t having twins," I looked at Tom and we both took a sigh of relief.

"Then, what is that big blob?" Mum questioned.

"It the placenta. It is larger than it should be," Her eyebrows raised.

"What? Why?" I stumbled to let the words escape my mouth.

"Dear, there is nothing to be worried about," She said softly.

"It is very common among young women. All we can to is monitor the placenta as well as the baby and make sure it stays at the correct consistency.

"OK, no more junk food for you Missy," Mum announced waving her finger at me.

"Oh, great! Just when I thought I would get away with eating junk food," I said unhappy.

Dr Hocking asked us to take a seat while she packed up the machine. When she came back she apologised.

"I am sorry I gave you a scar last scan, Bronte!"

"Oh no, that’s okay. I am just glad we got it all sorted today," I exclaimed with a smile.

"Well, if you could come back at 16 weeks for a scan, you can find out the sex of the baby," Dr Hocking smiled.

I looked at Tom, hoping he would answer but he was off in a daze.

"That would be awesome," I smiled.

I was still staring at Tom. What was he thinking about?

The next day at school, we sat in our usual circle. Me, Georgia, Lincoln, Tom. Tom still hadn’t said much after yesterday, I guess it was all kind of a shock. Well, none of us were talking, it was kind of awkward. Georgia kept looking at me and mouthing words.

I think she asked ‘What’s wrong with Tom?’

I just shrugged my shoulders. She gave us both a weird looking then continued eating her sandwich. Lincoln was staring off into the distance, probably watching the footy game that was taking place of the active oval. Tom hadn’t looked up from the ground since we sat done and me and G were just looking at each other.

5 minutes later, I was sick of the silence. I asked Georgia if she would come to the bathroom with me. She nodded her head and we got up and walked away. I don’t think Lincoln or Tom realised we were gone.

We got to the bathroom and I am glad there was no one in there.

"G, why is it so awkward?" I complained.

"Well, apart from yesterday. I don’t know. I think you just have to let Tom have some time to adjust," I pouted my lip.

"You like him, don’t you?"

I nodded while trying to hide my face.

"I never thought I would. We have known each other since we were 3 and now this has happened. It’s just made everything awkward and I don’t want it to be like that," I sobbed.

"Bon, I am sure it will be fine and everything will work out. Like I said before, just give him so time!"

I shocked my head up and down. We walked back to the guys in the playground. I was amazed to see Tom no longer staring at the ground and talking to Lincoln.

When we walked up behind Tom, they both stopped talking.

"Hey guys, what are you talking about?" I asked.

"Nothing in particular," Lincoln answered.

"Oh okay," I relied with a frown.

2 minutes later, Tom looked at me and said,

"Bronte, can I speak to you in private please?"

"Um, sure!" I said curiously.

As we stood up and walked away, I turned around and looked at Lincoln but he had already pounced on the opportunity to start hooking up with Georgia, so I quickly turned around.

I followed Tom until we were away from everyone. He finally turned around and looked me in the eyes.

"Bronte, I have been meaning to tell you something for a while now but I really haven’t worked up the courage to tell you." He stood there silent. I stared at him, waiting for him to continue.

Eventually he said,

"Bronte, I……"
