luke dreaded every step as he walked up to his front door.

he turned around and waved at michael who was still in his car.

he heard loud music on the inside of the house, and he peeked through seeing an unfamiliar man sitting on the couch with his mom.

he quickly looked behind him, and sighed in relief when he saw michael was still there.

he ran back to michael's car and got inside quickly.

"can i spend the night with you?" luke asked, and michael appeared confused as he put the car in drive.

"i mean, i guess so. why?" michael asked.

"my mom has a new boyfriend and i just don't want to deal with that right now," luke said, and put his new backpack on the floorboard again.

"okay. that's fine." michael said, and luke lightly smiled over at him. "just tell my mom what's going on, and she'll be okay with it. she has this thing about people staying on school nights but she won't mind since it's you."

luke lightly smiled and laid his head against the window as michael drove off.

it was dark outside and he listened to the radio softly play as they sped off.

"are you okay, luke?"

the blond softly nodded.
