Chapter 21

Running through the woods my paws hitting the ground hard and my fur blowing against the wind. My legs carried me all the way to the end of the border, looking out beyond me I sighed and fell to the ground. Anger pulsing through me I let my wolf cry and howl to the sky. Twilight sank above us and all I wanted was to spend the night with Jay, holding me, comforting me, kissing me til the sun came up

"He doesn't want us" I said miserably to my wolf

"He was protecting his pack" she howled

"But he needed to help me, protect me not her" I spat angrily

"Just give him time"

"How much time Malise?" I said frowning

"I don't know" she sighed

I left Malise with her thoughts after that. Shifting back into human form, I stood in the forest naked and alone. Covering myself with my arms I walked slowly back to civilization. The dampness of the ground on my bare feet had me shivering as well as the cold autumn breeze blowing in the wind. I reached a footpath in no longer than four hours and let me tell you I cannot feel my feet, actually make that every part of my body

"Abby?" I spun quickly on my heel to see Riley standing at the end of the street

"Riley" I choked out my voice hoarse and raspy from crying and the cold

He ran to me and stood a few feet away before scanning my body. His eyes travelled to the top of my head to my feet slowly. I covered myself instantly with my hands

"Here" he said taking his shirt off

I grabbed it gratefully letting the warmth of the fabric heat me up, I cradled myself closer and saw a sorrowful Riley staring at me

"I heard what happened" he said his voice barely heard

I looked at him with regret and shame. Turning away I let my tears roll down my cheek, clenching my fists I began to walk away. I hate Candace.

I didn't mean to hurt her as much as I did but I couldn't go another day with people talking like that to me. I had to stand up for myself and when I do I still have no respect. Maybe I wasn't cut out to be a wolf let alone a Mist wolf, I suppressed my urge to kill Candace and right now I'm too confused to try

"Abby!" Riley shouted

"Don't touch me" I whispered broken inside

"Abby" he said softly

"Riley please, you don't want to see me like this" I felt the tears prick my eyes and I turned away shaking

"I've always wanted you Abby" he sighed

I stopped mid-tracks when I started to turn slowly, Riley was looking directly at me a look Jay always gives me, Love. I sighed.

"Riley I'm sorry, you know I can't" I said stepping away from the only person willing to help me

"I know but I want to help" he smiled offering his hand

I hesitated but slid my hands onto his, his fingers interlocking with my own. He was so warm I just needed to capture all that warmth

"Come here" he sighed

He picked me up from behind my knees so I was nestled against his chest. I instantly sunk closer to him cupping my hands together over his chest. I envyed his warmth and I needed every last bit of it
