Do not ignore me

Ignore me. Go ahead, I don't blame you. I'm a fourteen year old Canadian girl who probably has no idea what she's talking about.
Or you could read on. You could read about the complexities of the human mind, the terrors of modern society so futilely discussed by an older generation that truly doesn't understand. Because our generation is the one that has to listen to your politics, yet are expected to stay quiet about it. Speak only when spoken too.
We are the broken. The beaten. The scared. The ones who cannot do anything but look on in fear as our leaders do nothing. We are the ones left wondering "why?" as the new feeds fill with carnage and death. We are the ones who will grow up afraid because a 64 year old white man with a gun committed one of the most heinous crimes in US history. Alone, without ever having to break any laws beforehand.
We are the ones left feeling scared and alone when tragedy strikes. We are the ones left hoping "Please, not me. Not my friends. Not my family." We are the friends of those murdered.
We are the generation that have grown up not fearing the monster under the bed with red eyes and sharp claws and snapping jaws, but the monsters that look like everyone else. That is, until that first gunshot goes off.
We are the generation who were not allowed a say in our politics, and instead have to live the rest of our lives, defined by these choices.
We are the ones who, when asked where we think the world will be 100 years from now, do not mention colorful sights, amazing technologies, or world peace. Our minds go straight to death. To destruction. To the ultimate collapse of society, whether that be a result of violence, war, or the simple negligence of something as prevalent as climate change.
We are the generation who's voices have been silenced. We cannot have political conversations with those older than us, because, according to them, we don't know. We don't understand.
But we do understand.
We understand that basic human rights and basic equality for all genders, races, religions, sexualities and anyone else should not be a debate, it should be the truth.
We understand that the world is ending, and that it'll be our job to fix it. We understand the science behind climate change that your own politicians seemingly do not. We understand the consequences that you all ignore.
We understand that your money means more to you than the planet you live on, more than he lives of others. We understand that you don't want to be held accountable, so you shut up and go with the flow.
We understand that guns, no matter who's hands they're in, are dangerous weapons that shouldn't be put into the hands of unqualified people who might just need to feel powerful one day.
We understand that your religion might be important to you, but we also understand that it shouldn't dictate others lives. It shouldn't give you a get out of jail free card from being a terrorist just because you're not Muslim, or a reason to believe that certain people should die for simply being who they are.
We understand that you don't want us to know how shitty the world has become. But we know.
We've had to deal with all of these things our whole lives. And we've stayed quiet.
We will no longer stay quiet.
I am a 14 year old Canadian girl who is telling you, here and now, that we will no longer be ignored. We will make ourselves heard. We will not let you silence us, and then go on to ruin the earth, the society that we will inherit.
So do what you like. You've already beaten us, silenced us, made us feel like shit.
But you cannot break us.
We are the generation that survived, and we will continue to do so.
You cannot ignore us anymore.
