"Boy, she bout ugly as a damn toad. Leave that girl be." Maurice said, looking over at the girl who's been eying me all school year.

"She may be a lil ugly, but stop being so rude man. She probably nice as hell." I defended her once again.

"Yeah, you gone head, and talk to Lil' mama then. Just don't bring her crooked teeth ass around me."

"So you was calling me crooked teeth before I got my braces?" He laughed.

"Hell Yeah nigga!  I said that shit to your face, and I'd do the same to her. I got to get to Mrs. Reebers class, before she send me to that slow class again."

"They not slow! That isn't a slow class, it's called a extra help class. For the kids who learn slower then others."

"Repeat what you just said again." I sighed waving him off.

"I'll see you at lunch man." We went out separate ways.

I'm known as so many different things around the school, I don't know why but I'm actually pretty popular. "KAMARI!" Someone yelled from behind me and I smiled nodding their way. That's my name. I'm basically known as the pretty boy from the islands. That's what most girls call me, but other niggas call me Mari.

I always get into dangerous stuff, and guess who is always with me..
my dad.

I'm originally from the Puerto Rico. I'm seventy five percent Rican,  and twenty five percent black. You can't tell because when I moved to Cali at seven, I learned fluent English easily. I don't speak Spanish that much anymore, but I can still speak it well..

My mother wanted nothing else to do with me, so I haven't seen her since I was seven. Enough about this... enough about me.. Just know my life isn't what everyone thinks it is. It's not perfect, it's full of lies.

The class was pretty boring, all day sitting in one class room. I can't wait until high school. Our loud speaker came on informing the seventh grade it was time for lunch. We were all escorted down to the lunch room in small lines. The thing about private school, not too many kids go here. Especially the kids from my neighborhood. As I walked up to get my lunch I accident pushed a girls lunch tray out her hand.

"I-I am so sorry. I didn't mean to bump into you I swear." She stuttered scrambling her food back on the tray. I lifted her glasses from the floor, she stood up straight looking at me.

"It's okay. It was my fault, don't beat yourself up about ma. Here." I handed her the glasses. She took them and wiped her eyes.

"In so used to people yelling at me. Sorry for the nervousness." She spoke low, but I heard her. I grabbed her hand.

"Yell back at them mother fucker's. Don't let people make you cry from yelling. Unless it's your mom and dad. Then you gone have to just listen and cry."  I got a little giggle out of her and she slid the glasses on her face.

"Yo Mari! Bring your ass and let that nerd be." Maurice yelled. I waved him off.

"You should go, your friends are waiting."

"You should take my number, and call me later okay." I slid a piece of paper with my number on it, in her hand. Her mouth parted out like she wanted to say something, but I walked away not wanting to hear her reasons why she shouldn't take my number.

Hours Later

I leaned up against the wall counting the money. I placed them in rubber band rolls, and set them in lines on the table. Once I finished doing that to all the money in two duffle bags. My phone started ringing, and as soon as I went to answer it.

"Is that my phone!? You got my fucking phone again Kamari!? " I sucked my teeth picking up the phone answering it.

"Fuck would I have your phone for. If I got my own shit!" I said low enough so he couldn't hear. I put the phone to my ear to laughing. "Fuck is this?"

"Oh my. You dont practice what you preach. You talk back to your daddy huh?" The girl from school, I think her name is Jayla.

'Man, it's crazy. I'm pretty sure your parents aren't as bad as my dad man." I leaned back in the chair playing with a roll of money.

"Well, Kamari I've noticed your friend hate me."

"He doesn't even know you. It's just how he is, he's always been attracted to bad bitches. Even though they all ignore him anyways."

"You're crazy." She laughed again, and I joined in. We talked for a couple hours, and I really think I like this girls vibe and what not.

I wiped the tears off of his cherry red face. He looked down at me not knowing what to say, all I did was sigh because I don't know what to say either. It was quiet in the room for about fifteen more minutes before I heard him start to speak.

"It never fails does it..."  His words were shaky and quiet.  I just decided to stay quiet. I don't want him to get to mad or sad , and start speaking another language on me. "Everyone leaves.... Everyone says they will be here, and they're gone not too long after."

"I'm sure your dad, didn't want to leave you, and I'm here... I'll always be here."

"They all say they'll always be there. My dad told me once we moved to the states, no matter what my mom said. He will always love me and be there for me. I'm seventeen, next time I see my dad I'll be thirty seven. That's damn near my whole life. I'll be a grown ass man, what the fuck will I need him for huh!?" He started yelling letting go of my hands. I stepped back, because I don't want to fight him today.

"Kamari... Please." I looked up at him with pleading eyes as I opened my arms. He walked to me , and I pulled him into a hug.

"I love you Jay. You always there man, like a sister I never had." I smiled a little leaning up kissing his cheek.

"I told you not to refer to me as your sister, after you took my virginity." He chuckled pulling away from the hug.

"We vowed to never speak of that again."

"Let's go to school. You got foot ball practice." I grabbed his hand as we made our way out the house.
