Twenty Eight

She ran her hand through my hair before nodding.

"So Uncle Derek let me borrow his car, and Cody informed me that you have not eaten dinner"

My stomach growled before I could reply.

"Lucky for you I let Uncle Derek know your birthday was today. He made you ribs, mashed potatoes and steamed veggies"

She moved and climbed off the bed. I watched as she grabbed the duffle bag and placed it on the bed.

"I'm pretty sure there's wine in here"

When I was over at his house a few weeks ago, Andrea actually showed me his wine cellar. He had his fair share of wine that he drank/used for cooking.

"Did you eat already?" I asked.

She was quiet and smiled.

"No?"

I shook my head and watched as she unpacked all the food.

"This is for you"

She handed me a white envelope with my name on it. Opening the envelope, I pulled out a notecard.

"Happy 27th Birthday Chris" I began reading.

I leaned against the bed rest.

"Here's food, see you tomorrow" I read.

I chuckled and turned the notecard around. He had listed what was in the duffle bag,

"There's cake" I told Andrea.

She smiled.

"Well it is your birthday"

I patted the spot next to me as she set up the food in front of me.

"Are you staying the whole time?" I asked.

"Yes"

I smiled and leaned in for a kiss. Instead, I got a BBQ rib in my mouth.

"Eat now, make out later"

I chuckled as I took a bite of the rib.

"This is really good" I mumbled.

Andrea leaned against the wall and pulled her phone out of her pocket.

"Are you not going to eat?" I wondered.

"I am, I just need to check my phone"

I watched as she replied to a text from Eli.

"Eli says Happy Birthday"

"Did he drop you off at the airport?" I asked.

"Yes, thankfully my 7PM was canceled"

I looked at her.

"I didn't know that" I stated.

"Duh, it would have ruined the surprise"

She reached over and lightly scratched my jaw.

"We could watch a movie" I suggested.

"Sounds good"

"Thanks for coming. You didn't have to" I began saying.

"And miss your birthday. You only turn 27 once"

I smiled as she wiped her mouth with a napkin and kissed my cheek.

"I got you something"

"You already got me my cologne" I reminded her.

She technically had already given me my present, a bottle of the cologne I used.

"That was technically a gift for me"

She climbed off the bed and pulled out a box from her backpack.

"You do like smelling me" I noted.

"You smell great"

I looked at the box she placed on my lap.

"Go on, unwrap it"

"You didn't have to get me anything" I told her.

"Shh"

I laughed and began unwrapping the box. Once it was unwrapped, I opened the box. On top, there was a folded note. She leaned back as I read the note out loud,

"Chris" I began.

I glanced at her.

"Happy Birthday, here are some little things I made to spice up our relation" I read.

I wiggled my eyebrows at her making her laugh.

"If you are reading this, then I made it to Arizona to surprise you. Can you believe we've been dating for about 3 months? The best 3 months of my life. Thank you for being you, and allowing me to be a part of your life. School and work are kicking my butt, and you are a big reason why I haven't cracked. You're caring, compassionate, extremely good looking, and to top it all off you are someone who I can talk to anything about. At first I was a bit hesitant to admit something, but I've realized that I should in no way be afraid to tell you that I am in love with you" I read out loud.

I looked up at her to see her smiling.

"You kinda beat me to it"

I laughed and pulled her into a kiss. When I tired to deepen it, she pulled away a bit.

"We should eat"

I shook my head.

"Later" I mumbled.

My hands found their way to her hips and I pulled her closer.

"You have no idea how much I love you" I said.

"Well, you can show me once we finish eating"
