A few weeks later....

Liza lay there asleep beside me. She had been tossing and turning all night, but was finally at peace.
Her beautiful curls fell softly on her face.
I softly rubbed my finger over her cheek, not enough to wake her up.

I placed my hand on her stomach. A smile fell on my face as I felt the baby kick.

"I pray you love like your momma
And you forgive just like she does
'Cause when this life knocks you down
I hope you get down on your knees
'Cause that's what I do,  when I pray for you."

Tears fell off of my cheeks onto Liza.
What if i mess this up? What if im a bad dad?

Liza stirred. I looked up at her from where i was resting on her chest.
"Babe? You awake?"

"Mhmmm," she hummed, eyes closed.

"I felt the baby," i said and looked back down at her stomach.
"Why didn't you wake me up?"
"You need to rest Liza."

She smiled and kissed my forehead.

A month later....

I sat there looking at my hands. Liza was against the wall with a cold stare at the other side of the room.
There was no more light. There was no more love. There was nothing to be happy about.
I had never seen her so blunt. She wasn't depressed, she was cold.
Her heart would no longer beat the same way it did before.

I hadn't touched her for two days. No hugs, no kisses. Nothing. We didn't even sleep in the same bed anymore.

We had lost the one thing we both wanted the most in the world.

We had lost our child.
